The World Boxing Foundation (formerly Federation) belt has been doing the rounds for a few years now. Hungarian Josef Matolcsi is one of the more famed holders :TU: Audley won it defeating Richel Hersisia if i recall correctly and it may have been "on the line" when he faced Julius Francis and Tomasz Bonin. Not sure there though.

Overall in answer to your question no it isn't any good, in fact it's a pile of shit on the same level as the WBU!

No, it makes the WBU look like the WBC.

WBF is a good stepping stone to fight for an Area Title.

You could go on for days what the best is, if indeed, any are the best..! :P

Aside the four 'recognised' bodies, WBC, WBA, WBO & IBF, you have quite a few other including:

IBO, WBU, WBF, IBC, IBA and a few other lurking around no doubt.

I saw Ferenc Szabo fight against Harry Ramogoadi last night; he was a former UBC youth champion.

I had never heard of the UBC before I looked at his record the other day.

The WBF should be noted as being of a superior quality to the many sanctioning bodies that are well-known to be run out of a boxroom in Sutton Coldfield. They do have a comparatively full champions list, run the thing professionally, and do sanction some quite good (but doubtlessly not world class) fights like Sosnowski-Taussa and Calloway-Mirovic. I'd actually put them 7th or 8th best, which isn't bad considering there's nearly 40 of the fuckers going about these days. However, that is like saying electric chair has broken in to the top 10 rankings of favoured death scentence methods. Boner

Ah, the glory days of the WBF reign.

Seriously, Audrey's win over Hersisia is arguably his best performance. Can't believe the WBF were pressuring him to fight anyone better than Bonin. Their last two heavyweight fights might have been good, but couldn't have been serious money-spinners. Even bauble-addict Calloway didn't keep the title.

You do wonder what's happening though. Audley is adamant he is continuing, whether that's right or wrong, so it seems his fortune is in the hands of Frank now. Is he planning to leave him to sit and fester and haul him out if he's required to fill in a perenial British round robin slot? I'd personally farm him out to the US, offer him to the likes of Chambers, Scott etc. Audley has the ability if not the performance to beat these guys, and drag out his career a little longer. Or if Vidoz somehow stays on his feet against Virchis, Audley could maybe take the European title fight

The British title. By about 6,000 times. Only the WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO and European (EBU) title should be rated better imo. The IBO has the best guidlines of the lot, but prestige-wise is still moderate (though globally way ahead of the WBU and WBF, who have very little recognition outside the UK/Oz.

Thaxton, Witter, Reid, Audrey and all Fwank's WBU champs are all examples of taking these "titles" merely as a stop-gap promotion-sweetner. All thosee guys knew/know the British title is worth more.

U are being very harsh on the British title by saying it is only 6,000 times better than the WBF
The Lonsdale belt is far better than that!

All the lads are taking a light-hearted view on this...not because they don't know any different but because if you didn't laugh, you would cry.

I'd say the proliferation of belts is probably the single most destructive influence on our sport. Why are they around? Because promoters are willing to pay for the shite so they can call their bills 'championship boxing' and in turn, sell it as such to naive television promoters and the ordinary man in the street.

It f*cking turned my stomach when Audley was announced as world champion on the BBC. It's f*cking fraud plain and simple - how on earth is the man in the street supposed to know though?

I don't know if it would be within the power of the BBBoC to simply not sanction any titles which don't come up to scratch - but it would be in the sport's interest.

Most of them are a f*cking cancer.

Didn't the BBBofC refuse to recognise WBO title matchups at one point?

Problem is Ian, as we well know, the sport is run by promoters, not by governing bodies, not my local commisions and certainly not by Joe public.

So long as this remains the case, it is incumbent on the promoters not to have their fighters going for these ludicrous and meaningless belts.

Trouble is, with boxing out of the mainstream for so long, nobody can tell when a title belt is a joke, and thus the promoters can get away with it.

You're right...but if the Board theoretically has the power to kick this rubbish into touch they should definitely do so.

And your last sentiment about most people not being able to tell what's what these days is EXACTLY why the media has a responsibility to call a spade a spade or, in the case of the WBU, a lump of shite a lump...well, you follow me.

If the board banned these trinkets, area titles etc would become that much more important.
Such fights would have to be ordered by the board therefore putting more power into boxing peoples hands rather than the money men.
The trinket organisations will sanction anything/one that pays their fee.
The board would order much better fighs at area level for the up and coming fighter and boxers would be forced to take the traditional route.
This would be so much better for British boxing.
However the board is probably dependant on some of the big promoters who pay their own fees and one big promoter helped out after the Micheal Watson payout?

I agree with all this but hope the last sentence isn't as true as everyone seems to believe and if it isn't, well, what you say would be brilliant for the sport.

The WBF's rankings are fine. Nothing wrong with them. But they're only decoration. To get a WBF title shot, all you have to do is apply for it, with your debit card details attached. Do you think Julius Francis was in their top 10 when he fought Audley?

And as much as we respect him here in Britain, nobody would claim he was legit world title material. Probably not even the man himself, who is one of the more honest characters in the game.

What happend to that part time British fighter from aout 6-7 years ago who would come in with his own belt - when he would lose, would give the opponent the belt only for the opponent to "vacate" and he would have it back.

I did check and this wasn't an April edition of Boxing Monthly when I read a small piece on him.

I think he called it the "Mickey Mouse" world championship or something like that.
