Johnny "Honeyboy" Bratton.

Post by Expug »

Chicagos flashy Welterweight champ of the early fifties fought a whos who of welters and had loads of ability.
But too many tough fights against the likes of Kid Gavilan, Charlie Fusari, Joe Miceli, Beau Jack, Ike Williams, Laurent Dauthille , Del Flannigan ,Joe Brown, Sammy Angott, Chalky Wright, Gene Hairston, Bobby Dykes, Rocky Castellani, Johnny Saxton, and others led to major problems when Honeyboy gave up the ring.
He wound up confused and homeless wandering around Chicagos near north side Rush Street area for years.
For a long time old timers here in Chicago would talk about the talent that Bratton had in the ring.
His name isnt really mentioned too often anymore however.
He was an outstanding fighter.
Its a shame how things turned out in the end.
Bratton died in 1993.
