Now certain promoters aren't involved it's the perfect match....

I'd loved to have seen Cotto v Hatton, would have been a beauty and would have fancied Ricky to take him at light-welter, but MC probably too big now....

At what weight though?? I can't see PBF drop back down to 10 stone and I can't see Hatton wanting to move up from 140 after last time. I reckon Hatton stands a slim chance of beating PBF at 140, but no chance at 140+

There's the problem....

Light-welter is perfect for Hatton, but why would Floyd come down? Ricky would have to do the running, especially after last week's result against DLH, and we've already seen that he's less effective at welter....

If Hatton is emphatic against Castillo then they should fight at 147 for Mayweathers WBC belt. They'd both be best at that weight. Whether either fighter would try to make the fight is another matter altogether. Hattons happy sitting on his 140lb no1 status and has turned Mayweather down 5 tiems according to Daddy Hatton and Mayweather is happy coming out of retirement for mega-fights only.

Mayweather will want to get another $15m-$20m against Delahoya or will be happy going against Mosley/Trinidad/Cotto/Mayweather for $12m. Less than $12m won't get the pretty boy back in the ring but I could be wrong.

one problem : Hatton wasnt even solid at welter against a guy like Collazo who was easily handled by Mosley.
Mayweather looked very solid at welter, and even competed against the best 154 pounder...
Mayweather has more reach than Hatton, has more skill than hatton, has more speed than Hatton, and has more power than Hatton...
so tell me exactly how you would like this fight to be competitive?
its gonna be a boxing clinic, a one sided fight worse than the Baldomir fight, and is gonna end up in a TKO loss around round 10 for Mayweather.
Hatton doesnt stand a snowball's chance, and i would rather like him to face Gatti or a guy like Demetrius Hopkins and stay at light welter.

Hatton is in his prime? and you come to this conclusion from watching him against Maussa, Collazo and Urango did you?

If thats his prime I fear for him against Mayweather & Cotto

fornicating hell that was a bit negative, since beating Tszyu he's beaten three world champs - albeit B-rate - at two weights...

He's worked hard for those wins and not looked great but I would certainly give him a 50/50 shot against Cotto. Who's Cotto beaten that's better than what Hatton's beaten?

Over-the-hill fighters or green ones...

All 3 of them were terrible world champions,

Maussa got lucky against Vivian Harris to win the title and has been exposed since.

Collazo I thought was the real deal and Hatton's win looked pretty good until Mosley exposed him.

And Urango got handed the title by the Judges against Ndou.

After Tszyu it was going to be "superfights" all the way, that was 2 years ago.

He gets battered off Mayweather and beat off Cotto, thats if they ever happen or is he happy with as you called them "B-rate" fighters.

I said they were B-rate, but they were still world champs, which is more than Cotto....

What would you be happy with?

What makes Cotto more special than Hatton, you passed that bit by.....

The 147Lb Belt belongs to Mosley.

Have to say I think Hatton has peaked now, he could probably still be described as in his prime but I get the impression he on the downswing.

Hatton's last 4 fights have been Tszyu and 3 world champs...whether you like it or not.

Urango was a tough nut, but limited, and he was champ. Maussa was a joke and Collazo was tough as well...

But Cotto has beaten nobody of the calibre of a Tszyu, he's not been in with anyone rock hard, solid.....

Guys like Corley, Bailey, Malignanni, Abdullaev.....they've been hand-picked. And now he's fighting Judah?

Brittle........then again I think Judah will box his head off and then get TKOd.

It makes me laugh how people are still cussing DLH as "past his best". He would probably stop Hatton who is there to be hit.

DLH would stop Hatton because he's the bigger man. He Is still past his best only one fight In two years and Floyd won close to him Instead of dominating!

The Hatton who beat Tszyu would of had a chance against Floyd but he's slipped since so It looks likely Floyd would win now.

DLH's a bigger win than Tszyu though so Hatton would have to take the much lower share of the money If It happened though.

I've always been a fan of Hatton's, I predicted he'd be world champ the first few times I saw him fight several years back, but didn't think he'd beat Tszyu.

However, to talk about Cotto's opposition as 'hand picked' given Ricky's elongated and heavily padded record is absolutely hilarious.

Hatton has only had a few decent opponents. Tackie, Phillips (sort of), Tszyu of course, and Collazo. Maussa and Urango were just belt holders, Urango, both tough men, but very ordinary and limited fighters.

Cotto's resume is decent, he doesn't have a Tszyu on there, but overall he's faced decent, dangerous opposition. He took on unbeaten banger Kelson Pinto and absolutely demolished him. Qunitana and Malignaggi were also both unbeaten. Ricardo Torres was also unbeaten, and has bounced back to record three wins on the trot and is up against Kendall Holt next. Let's not forget that Cotto also fought Maussa, if you';re going to bring this name into it, and bashed him up good and proper.

Cotto has had shaky moments in bouts, but in every case, he's come back to annihilate his opponent. DeMarcus Corley was getting bashed up prior to landing a shot which wobbled Cotto, and was getting bashed up afterward. It's the manner of his victories which is impressive, and the fact that Cotto seems to be getting better as time goes on.

On moving up to Welterweight, Cotto smashed his way to the title, battering Quintana, who many predicted was going to give him a rough night, and winning comfortably against Urkal, a seasoned campaigner at top level.

Hatton, sadly, has not looked quite the same fighter since beating Tszyu, I'm hoping he comes good against Castillo, and wins convincingly, but right now, out of the two, I'd have to say Cotto looks the better, more rounded fighter and looks like the guy most likely to be a long term stayer.

bigger but not better

tszyu - while inactive and ageing - had taken the fight to the lion's den & should be credited as a dominant, fearsome world champion.

de la hoya is a great handicapper who always enters the big fight with an advantage (ie the othe rguy looked bad last time, or as with last time - weight) yet always finds a way to fade over the final 4 whether he's in his prime or past it. overrated guy, dlh.

Let's not get carried away here.

The victory over Tszyu was very impressive, no doubt about it. But the fact that Tszyu came over for a massive payday, and has not fought since, should not be ignored either. The Tszyu of two years previously I think would have had the stamina and willpower to keep going and win by decision.

Are you saying Hatton is better than DLH? I think that's pretty absurd myself, Hatton has got one landmark victory in his entire career, Oscar's career is full of big fights and big victories all the way from Super Featherweight.

Oscar took on Floyd at the age of 34, whilst inactive, and almost pulled it off. You could easily say Floyd got Oscar at the right time.

i think what people are saying is that styles wise hatton could be the pain in mayweather's backside.

i think de la hoya would destroy hatton with power punching combinations.

i don't think mayweather would with his light hitting box and move skills.

No. Fried Bread was quite clear in what he was saying, he was inferring that Hatton was 'better' than Oscar, which is plainly ridiculous. Handicapper or no, Oscar has proven himself at top level for the best part of a decade.

Ask yourself this. How would Hatton do against Mosley, even now? I have my doubts that Hatton would do well against Shane at Welterweight. A prime Mosley would probably have been a nightmare style for him.

Mayweather is an entirely different proposition. He doesn't have a great deal of power to discourage Hatton, and doesn't seem able to fight at a great pace and still be effective, which would be Hatton's key advantage.

Noticed that Hatton and Castillo are also fighting for the WBC International Title too so will the winner fight the winner of Witter/Harris?
