Alex Arthur to fight for World title in July
Apparently Arthur is due to fight Koba Gogoladze from Georgia for the vacant WBO super-featherweight title in July. Not to sure if this will be in Scotland or included on the Limond v Khan bill on July 14. With Juan Guzman going up to lightweight, the belt has been declared vacant. Have to say I'm not too excited at this match up, sure Arthur is a world class fighter, but Gogoladze has a very average looking record and hasn't been getting many rave reviews. I suppose I was unrealistically hoping to see Arthur in a real world class tear-up this year with the likes of Barrea, Marquez, Valero or Guzman (before he moved up of course). I'm not saying Arthur could beat these guys, but at least let's find out how good he is against a truly world class fighter. After all we've seen Tszyu and Lacy in against Sports Network fighters, why not someone similar for Arthur?

Now that the Guzman - Katsidis fight is off is the title still vacant? And yes it is a shame if we dont get to see Arthur in with one of the big boys but if he does get past Gogaladze he might soon have to accomodate Jorge Barrios which would be a very tough task and a fight that would definitely tell us where Arthur stands at world level.
Can't see Arthur being put in with Barrios. It's a sad trend amongst British fighters that rather than gunning for the top man in the division they tread water/hang around for long enoughout of harms way until the belts become vacant and then fight a beatable or weak fellow contender to become "world champion". Oh well
I was also wondering if the WBO title will be declared vacant now. Because Guzman may not even move up to lightweight now. In fact, he's at the top of the shortlist to fight Pacquiao.
This is what I'd like. Arthur v Gogoladze in an eliminator to face the Guzman-Pac winner. Wouldn't that make a certain promoter's blood boil?

My mistake, got my long named surnamed Super Feathers who mixed up. Noticed that Gogoladze beat Johanneson aswell.... got him and Kirakosvyan mixed up.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:He's already got one lined up against the Euro Champ, or so I believe.stujones wrote:So where does this leaves Carl Johanneson.... A Vacant EBU title fight?
It's a bit sad that we hear nothing until Guzman vacates...but now he may not even be vacating.Lenny wrote:I'm a big Arthur fan Terry but if he is to be a "world champion" i'd love for it to be against a fighter like Guzman (who whilst I rate very highly, isn't unbeatable) than against Gogoladze.
Superfeather is a great division and i'm sure AA would love to test himself against the best.
I gave Arthur props for that fine showing last time out, and Gogoladze is a good southpaw, but this shouldn't be for a world title.
I hope Guzman stays down, keeps the title, and that Arthur beats Gogol and challenges Joan. If Joan moves up and they go for the vacant, it just feels like the normal backdoor route to a title compounded by Cookie's fight for the vacant WBO which was announced at the same time.
