The scary thing is many fighters of the past often used to play 'possum' on the ropes, let their opponents punch themselves out a little, whilst slipping and blocking the shots then come back with countershots.steve689 wrote:I invisage a succession of Khan flurries forcing a timid ref into jumping in and stopping it without Limond being particularly hurt or taking many flush but being stopped on "accumulation".
A lot of the Cubans who defected to the states (mostly to the Miami area) were well know for this tactic, and excelled at it.
They would struggle to use that tactic today.

i agree !Southpaw Stylist wrote:David Haye is another potential world class fighter.sweetscience wrote:why would we wont Khan to lose
he is realistically our only potential world class fighter, and after hatton and calzaghe gone we would be fucked
but his chin may let him down with the big men, but he has a good chance, a very good chance
IF KHAN DOES KNOCK OUT LIMMOND
Limmond should go and tell teacher, bulling is not allowed and we are supposed to stamp this out.
For fornicate sake he's a silver med winner being fed small guy's. Lad's i hope khan is the reel thing, but until he's tested who knows. Learning, learning what i ask, how too tuck up, slip, rough it out. Bullshit
IF YOU DON'T FEAR IT YOU LEARN FROM IT.

How the hell can there be bullying In Boxing when they choose to fight whoever there scheduled to fight?
I understand Willie fought In a lower weight class but he can't make Super Feather no more and It's only a 5 pound weight difference.
It's not like Khan's fighting a guy a stone lighter than him.
At least when Hatton was being called a bully he was doing It at world level while Khan's only domestic but they were only 5 pound weight differences.

limmon is the lightweight championnicnut wrote:5lb only just shy of half a stone, coupled with a day before weigh in or probably 36 hrs, Khan will probably be near a stone heavier. Solid fair match eh,
A good test at this time would be Khan v Barry jones.
there is no issue with weight in this fight, people do move up
I don't think it will come down to rustiness at all, Khan will beat whichever Limond shows up, because he's simply faster and more skillful. If and when Khan gets found out it will be against someone who either has the skills to match him, or someone who is simply rougher, tougher and can crack harder than him. Limond doesn't possess any of those qualities, he's a technical boxer and he'll be overwhelmed by Khan. The same will happen to John Murray if him and Khan fight. Say what you want about Khan, but it's not often that Britain produces some with the talent he has and his talent alone will be to much for most if not all his rivals at domestic and even European level. His chin is the only thing that is a worry for me, it still remains to be seen if he can take a good shot.KOJOE90 wrote:As a big Limond fan I hope he scores a big upset over Khan.
However Limond has been very inactive of late and my respect fpr Khan if he wins will in part depend on how good Limond looks in the fight, as he may be very rusty, which I assume is what Team Khan are hoping for.

Rougher, tougher and crack harder than Khan, are you not describing Jon Thaxton? - He is a domestic rival and British champion at the weight as well - I am not at all sure Khan can cut the mustard with Jon just yet and FW wouldnt risk his boy against him at any cost - Khan as you rightly say does have good boxing skills but he also has a massive ego and thinks he can beat anyone - I dont think you can say Khan would be too much for his domestic rivals just yet - Limmond should be a safe fight and a good fight to learn from and Murray a harder and more challenging one should it come off - I think Khan can beat Murray but Thaxton is another matter - Maybe they will avoid Thaxton but if they do Khan can hardly say he is the best in Britain - I think Khan and many of his ardent fans are jumping the gun talking about world titles and being the best on the domestic scene - He has a lot of work to do and lets face it he is only just reaching British level now.ArtOfWar wrote:I don't think it will come down to rustiness at all, Khan will beat whichever Limond shows up, because he's simply faster and more skillful. Yeah, I think Thaxton would definitely provide a stiff test for Khan. He's got just the sort of style that could give Khan trouble as long as he could pin him down. I don't think there is much chance of that happening though, Fwank is not gonna match his golden boy with a fighter from another stable.wildwaylon wrote:Rougher, tougher and crack harder than Khan, are you not describing Jon Thaxton? Just seen this. I agree giving a doctor a button is far from ideal with his poor viewpoint. Suppose my thinking is brought on by terrible refereeing of late. (I originally considered three docs, using a stoppage system the same as amateur point scoring. But three doctors is unrealistic for most cards.)Carbo wrote:A button can only be in one place and that person isn't at the same level, is removed from the action and may even be blinded. Bad idea, I'm afraid.
The best solution might be compulsory medical training for refs, with annual exams. I'd like to see uniform reasoning for stoppages most of all; right now each ref is an independent authority.
