Anyone here been to Vegas???

Post by Guest »

Someone was under the impression that I've been to Vegas but in actual fact I never have unfortunately.

Who has then? Could you summarise your experience in a paragraph?

Personally it's a little ambition of mine to go to Las Vegas and take in a big fight but its not a cheap do is it? I don't really have any mates who'd be willing to spend a grand + to watch a big fight that might be a disappointing affair (De La Hoya - Mosley II, and Barrera - Morales II being obvious examples here).

Ideally, I should be putting away some money each month but you know what it's like when you've got bills to pay etc etc. One option that I am considering is to take in a big fight at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut next March/April (if there is one). My wife's sister lives in Connecticut and I spent an afternoon gambling there with my brother in law back in May. It's a cracking place and is increasingly being used as a big fight venue.

I'd also look to try and blag some press passes to save a few bucks whilst sending a report through for SecondsOut. Well, that's my cunning plan

I'm probably going to the Jones-Tarver fight
I know it's probably not a great fight but it might be one of the last chances to see RJJ live.
I'm single at the moment which is another good reason, both financial and ehh other reasons, there are plenty of things to in Vegas you know

This little trip costs about €1000 I reckon, of which 450 flight, 100 tickets, you a need a place to stay, I'll just be going 4 days, 'cause I can't be away from work too long.

Whaaaa! I just got 4 tapes with the mail, thank god I took a day off today.

One of my ambitions too. Probably should have done before I got myself tied down with a mortgage and a girlfriend who wants to tie the knot sooner rather than later :(

My dream was fairly simple: Big Heavyweight fight at the MGM or Caesers, Tyson-Holyfield 1 would have been ideal.

The year before I started my current job a group of lads here went out to Lewis-Holyfield 2 and they still tell the stories to this day....

Funnily enough I was in Mexico when that fight was on, even just watching a big stateside fight like that at 10pm (as opposed to silly o'clock over here) in a bar AND on HBO is dead cool, being in Vegas must be amazing.

I've got a friend who posts on another site who goes regularly, in fact he was at DLH-Mosely 2 and Jones-Ruiz, I'll try and get him to post on here.

I assume you mean me (just looking through this Forum for the first time, nice co-incidence).

Fight weekends in Vegas will be amongst the best weekends of your life - this year went to DLH v Mosley and RJJ v Ruiz. Try to go to two a year.

The atmosphere when DLH fights is great (went to Vargas last year) - more gorgeous LAtino women than a J - Lo video.

If anyone wants info on how to get tix, hotels etc feel free to drop me an e-mail. If you need to bribe the missus, take some equity out your house etc, just do it!!

On a slightly more mundane level, off to Reading tonight!!

That is freaky. I mean really freaky.

I won't bore you all with my personal life but that is too many coincidences for one week, I'm buying a lottery ticket tomorrow!!!

Bennie,
The reason Lewis is booed in the states is because a lot of hard core fans that supported him in his drive to the title when he was being sidestepped; were disappointed in him because he acted the same as the previous champions after winning the title. :-?
His decision to sit on his throne doing nothing has proved to be his undoing.

I really enjoyed your description of Vegas. :D
Nothing draws the big names & high rollers into town like a big fight.
Las Vegas is also the place U can take your family and see the fights while they do their thing and later they will thank U for the time of their life.
No one should miss it. It ranks right up there with the wonders of the world.

Great post, I was at the fight (and press conf.) so a lot of your comments brought back nice memories.

How hot were the women at the fight?
The next card I attended was the Williams v Sprott card. Although a good card, a leisure centre in Reading didn't really match up to the MGM Grand, LAs Vegas.

Haven't ruled out going to Jones v Tarver....
