Palle cancelling talks with Warren to negociate with Mundine

Post by Max Molyneux »

English Translation from Danish site.

Boxingpromoter Mogens Palle are not going to meet Calzaghe's Promoter Warren to discuss the terms for a fight between the 2 champions.
The 2 promoters originally had arrenged a meeting in mid May, a meeting Palle now has canceled.

" When I read that Warren and Calzaghe are going to the USA to see Taylor fight May 19. I see no reason to meet warren before that fight has taken place" Palle says.

Welsh Joe Calzaghe announced a week ago taht he hopes to meet Taylor in his next fight. That statement has annoyed Palle.

"I see no reason why I should play this game if Warren goes to USA afterwards to make a deal with Taylor" the danish promoter says. At the same time Palle says that he will start negotiatons about a meet with the australian Anthony Mundine.

Well, if true, that proves once and for all that Warren and Palle are as bad as each other. I think fingers need to be pointed in both directions if Calzaghe/Kessler never happens.

Well, Calzaghe has shown where his priorities are by going to Arkansas.

If Warren was serious about making the Kessler fight he wouldn't need to go to the US. There's no way that Taylor will fight in the UK so why even bother.

I reckon JC will probably travel to the US for the Taylor fight, much prefer the Kessler fight though

He should jab Taylor's head off for 12 rounds, take Kessler in his last fight...then retire.

Eubank, Lacey, Kessler, Taylor, Brewer and good wins over Woodhall, Sheika, Reid (just), and Mitchell should be enough to cement a legacy that will keep people happy.

Oh, and of course, that brilliant scrap with David Starie, a real barnburner that one :D

Why is Kessler bothering with Mundine again? I don't in all honesty think that Palle is very keen on doing a deal with Warren for this fight.

As said above, one is as bad as the other, and I think what we have is the same situation as the proposed Ottke fight. Neither promoter is willing to go the extra mile to make the fight happen.

And nor will they ever. All the 'super fights' Warren's negotiated for his charges have come when the opposition is offered a mile more money from Warren for fighting a big crowd puller in the UK than they could get elsewhere. It's never because Warren has gone out of his way to secure the fight. Its more that the UK money making power of Hatton, Calzaghe, Hamed et al far outstrip the other options available and so they're willing to work on Frank's terms.

Palle, I get the impression, is equally intransigent. It won't happen unless one of them budges, and neither will.

Why on Earth Kessler would want Mundine again is beyond me, though. It's a piss-poor move for the Dane if he takes it.

Promoters don't just talk with one fighter when making deals.

Fighters have to keep options open.

Their 'options' don't last long because FW takes them and keeps them for at least 10 fights

Palle is being sensible - FW could tie Kessler up all summer and then make the fight with someone else. Kessler's people were ALWAYS going to have a deadline in their minds as to when they would want to sort something else out.

Exactly, Palle is probably sick of being strung along. Kessler will probably fight Mundine again because of the money, remember Mundine pulls in the big bucks in OZ. And while i agree that Kessler-Mundine 2 is not an ideal fight whoever said it is "piss poor" is way off the mark. How can a fight between two world class operators be piss poor?!

Macarinelli-Gunn is piss poor, Calzaghe-Pudwill is piss poor, Kessler-Mundine is no mismatch for a start no matter if they have fought before or not. Mundine showed against Soliman he is the genuine article at Super Middleweight.

allegedly has to persuade Mogen Palle to the table. Joe Calzaghe v Mikkel Kessler is a fight that has to happen. Unless Warren offers absolutely ridiculous money the Jermain Taylor fight is not happening.

When are Calzaghe and Froch due back from their respective injuries?

So Joe Calzaghe and his phenomenal are at the good old duckin' game again. :TU:

Well the boxing world would have been surprised if Joe's talk about Kessler would ever have become more than just -- talk.

If he cant deal with Warren why wouldn't he fight the 3rd best 168 pounder, Would you rather he fought Pudwill or Bika or Manfredo

Mundine said in an interview that his promoter is trying to make a deal with the Kessler camp, He also said he might have to travel for the fight as Kessler conceded home ground advantage last time.

That would be fair enough...

It will still be the same result as last time though...

I'm pretty sure that Mundine is the number one contender or "regular champion" as the WBA like to put it, so if Joe is quacking it makes sense to get his mandatory out of the way early and it's a bonus that Mundine is a decent opponent & one that Kessler has beaten before...

Palle and Warren were throwing $5mil offers, vowing not to pose through the media and sit down to strike out a deal while Warren was in America the other week.

So what happened? We hear NOTHING of Warren/Palle negotiations, but we hear that Warren was in talks with Lou DiBella, even though Taylor says he will never come over here.

Then what happens? Calzaghe is set to appear at the Taylor-Spinks 'Border Battle' (aka weight mismatch where Taylor won't have to take hard punches), Warren ready to court Lou again...If you were Palle wouldn't you be pissed off?

Kessler can get a big payday v Mundine if it's in Australia. Mundine definitely the #3 super middle and I suppose Kessler has a reason to have the fight because it's another respectable one and it sorts out the silly WBA title split.
