Sky are not like HBO, they don't really'develop' talent in the way HBO does, nor do they have the spending power.
Their best bet is to show what domestic dust ups they can, and then to offer as many of the best international shows as their budget will allow.
What we need is for the other domestic channels to invest in some of the other promoters around, rather than having exclusive deals with a single promoter.
We shall see how things pan out between ITV and Warren, perhaps if ITV renegotiated a non exclusive contract?

that's true, they're not star makers, they merely show good fights. but there should be some kind of quality control that stops the nearly men from repeated coverage at better men's expense - and I'm sure they're hoping for Haye and Froch to fill the gulf left by the unsatisfying Hatton.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Sky are not like HBO, they don't really'develop' talent in the way HBO does, nor do they have the spending power.

I like the idea of all the broadcasters, sky, setanta, itv, bbc getting in the mix & being sensible in refusing to give out exclusive 3 year contracts that get abused by thrifty and cynical promoters. each one of them getting in the action, bidding for top fights, creating a competitive market and ignoring the shite that gets proposed.
but already setanta seem to be giving ricky carte blanche...
nice one, i definitely want to see them in action soon.states Posted:
Chin up FF. Munyai and Olusegun are both listed on the undercard of Power-Booth. Hope for an early finish in that one, and hopefully some decent opposition for the two Africans.
well said. Munyai was mobbed by Power's fans after the 2nd fight. Shit, he has a style that anyone likes and class to take him way above Commonwealth level in time.stujones wrote:Munyai and Olusugen on the undercard? Munyai... the guy who hammered Power twice on the undercard.... Doesn't make sense.
Make Munyai the main event.
It's insulting seeing what happened to Olusegun. Spanked Numbembe and Pryce and now one's Commonwealth welter the other's commonwealth light middle.
With the light welters, all we seem to get are Daws, Lynes, and bloody Bami whose competitive Lauri fights make him pale next to Hatton & Witter.

Munyai wont be a main event over here unless hes beating up on some British fighter or he fighting in a world title fight/world rated name. Frank Maloney will find it hard to get Munyai some meaningful fights over here. I am guessing world rank fighters want too much money or will avoid Munyai if they dont have to fight him. Same problem with another of Frank Maloney African fighters Ajose Olusegun no British fighter will fight him.
ps Power v Booth is a good fight.
ps Power v Booth is a good fight.
In UK boxing, seemingly every Euro level Brit thinks he's good enough to win an alphabet title. It's mostly a fantasy. Doesn't Maloney have a piece of not only Munyai, but Olusegun and Romanov? Shocking.
Those guys are better off in America - someone would pick them up and after a strong performance at, say, NABF level they could even wind up on Showtime. All we learn over here is that our small timers are a) scared to fight them and b) not good enough to beat them and that c) the promoters don't seem bothered.
Promoters have to promote. What's up, don't they know how to, if the fighters don't conform to the "local lad popular at sports centre" norm?
I'm disgusted.

Are you? Well, try promoting then.Final Fight wrote:In UK boxing, seemingly every Euro level Brit thinks he's good enough to win an alphabet title. It's mostly a fantasy. Doesn't Maloney have a piece of not only Munyai, but Olusegun and Romanov? Shocking.

It's a bloody hard business, very few fighters are ticket sellers, and the problem is getting worse not better with time, as boxing becoms more and more niche.

If you're a good promoter, find a way to sell your product. Like I say, those Africans & Romanov could do well in America. Fecking sports centres. Is that the future of UK boxing?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Are you? Munyai was mobbed by Martin Power's fans after their 2nd fight. Maloney - for instance - could have one heck of a world class stable. Already has Haye. But just look at the potential in Munyai, Romanov and Olusegun.
It's unaceptable to me. I have absolutely had enough of seeing what the UK promos are foisting on us - Ian Nyapper, Martin Power, Ali Numbembe, Kevin Anderson, Ted Bami, Colin Lynes, Esham Pickering, Michael Hunter, ...Is this what I'm paying for on my Virgin bill? They have ALL become retreads which makes for venerating viewing. Now, Numbembe is the anomoly there. I keep hearing about his "cult following".
Let's see certain others get "cult followings" built up because some of those I mentioned could end up with a world title at the end of the yellow brick road.
A lot of the decent fighters - i.e. Cookie, Earlie - end up defecting to Warren anyway. I say build lasting relationships with the guys that deliver or the domestic scene is going on the shit-heap.
