I had no idea the operations were carried out by the same doctor, or doctors. This in itself is a peculiar coincidence.

Does anybody know the story behind Greb's needing to have the operation in the first place? I've read some places that it was for cosmetic reasons, other places that he was involved in a car crash and elsewhere that he was actually hit by a speeding car.

BTW I voted for merely incompetence of doctors. If for whatever reason the Mob did want to murder the two boxers, I don't think they'd have waited on the off chance that the two might be taken into hospital for surgery.

Agreed, i to was unaware of this fact.

I am unsure of what happened, but like others believe that these where odd circumstances.

Having had some experience of both hospitals and doctors I'm more than willing to bet that the deaths of Flowers and Greb were down to simple incompetance.... especially as they seem to have been caused in both cases by the same doctors. Even today doctors still give people too much anasthetic. The Middleweights seem to have a history of tragic deaths... Les Darcy is another one who died young.
Talking of strange deaths what about the two Davey Moores, the Fetherweight champ of the late 50s and the lightmiddle champ of the early 80s. Both died tragically at about 29. The Fetherweight Davey Moore died after his fight with Sugar Ramos while the lightmiddleweight Moore was killed when he was run over by his own truck.
