i think he'll catch up with spinks at some point.

he should do anyway.

for me he proved himself in the first hopkins fight.

showed excellent skills and toughness in that fight.

ticked all the boxes for me. :TU:

I’ve always liked Jermain Taylor. He definitely proved he was for real with three hard fights with Hopkins and Winky. All three were close, but that’s to be expected.

I think he craves recognition for his achievements, which so far haven’t been forthcoming.

I like the piece that has just come up on FightNews.com – Taylor is ranting about everyone and everything.

I don't think he IS the real deal. I think he CAN be. But if he's retiring next year he won't even reach his peak. Ouma and Spinks are disappointing choices of opposition, yet I suppose Abraham was taking on Jantuah and Shannan Taylor. Making Taylor more forgivable. Need to see him vs a big punching middle, that will do me.

Still not wholly convinced by the Little Rock native TBH.

He gets pushed back too easily by smaller men and doesn’t look to have the power now he is at world level.

I would have liked to see him get more seasoning ahead of winning the title – in light of Hopkins win over Tarver, Taylor edging the old man out twice now seems a better form line than it did previously.

Whatever the outcome of Saturday’s fight, beating Spink, even if in dominating fashion, won’t fully convince me: he should be doing that against either of the men on the undercard - Pavlik or Miranda.

Taylor v Spink doesn’t interest me at all – I will be watching it at 9am on Sunday morning, along with the rest of the card, whilst playing with my baby daughter.

The fight doesn’t warrant a ‘ghoster’ in my eyes, but good luck staying up Terry!

I can see why Taylor is mad, he's beaten 2 of the P4P fighters , and not really got the recgonition for it.

Spinks will cause him some problems, but i think Taylor will win inside of 7 rounds. In a good fight.

I really want to see the Miranda/Pavic fight, wonder what time it'll be on? 3am probably..

Pavic is being touted as the real thing, he can box and punch by all accounts, but he better be able to hold a shot if he's in with a chance against the Colombian. A real genuine eliminator - don't see those too often anymore.

As for Taylor, the 2nd best middleweight in the world, I'm not too interested after his last bore-a-thon..especially against a cautious fighter like Spinks - Taylor SHOULD knock out Corey if he's as good as some think, but I get the feeling he'll box his way to another points win.

Upset? You'd have to really hand it to Spinks if he pulls it off. With Leon in the corner, maybe the Spinks Jinx will work again.

Fair play Jermaine Taylor!!! I bet that shut Mirandas mouth up :D :D

Anybody that fights Hopkins twice Winky once and still hasn't got a defeat on his record is one hell of a boxer. He sounds fired up, Spinks is getting sparked!! Where's my mate Stan James??

Taylor's coming out party
That one caught me a bit by surprise, he always seemed like one of the guys :-?

Anyway...Taylor to stop Spinks in 10 and Pavlik to outpoint Miranda.

I don't see Taylor as reaching any potential unless he shows a Lewis style patience. He definitely has the dynamism and punch variety, but he needs to give himself time which an '08 retirement won't grant.

His career trajectory - millionaire before he turned pro, matched so as to keep a flashy record and moved into a title shot v a champ too old to hurt him and title reign v non punchers - suggests a cash in & get out.

I like that he's been fighting A and A- fighters, in quick succession, but have the supicion that he's being kept away from punchers. If he annihilates the Pav/Pantera winner later in the year, I'll have to say he's blossomed into a fine young champ.

My view is opposite to yours, Terry. I feel Taylor's lack of positivity would have him outworked by Calzaghe, who you just cannot allow to seize control of a fight...Kessler, despite a lack of variety, is a domineering long range fighter of exceptional timing who's good enough on the outside to paper over his lack of infighting/short punching. Kessler was brought along to learn things one by one v a useful group of tough cookies and ex champs

Seeing Calzaghe getting nailed by Mario Veit's long punches in their rematch, going bow-legged and nearly dropped after a right at the end of round 1...does get me thinking. Veit has class but is such a tame, even wimpy fighter who cannot sustain. Kessler can and will. If Joe can't force a sizzling pace he's lunging from outside and poss picked to death.

Right now Taylor has biz at middle. I'm bitterly disappointed that the Gerrys - Sturm & Abraham - rejected offers by DiBella. Though I don't know the specs it just seems these talented boys want nothing more than to be alphabet titlists.

Looking forward to the fights - Berto on the undercard as well. I don't find myself enjoying Taylor all the time yet I keep wanting to see him when/if it all comes together because he does have something.

Terry D wrote: Sorry but if you put their three defining fights side by side you have Hopkins x 2 and Wright standing next to Reid, Eubank and Lacy. Joe dominated one of those fights yet the foe was pretty moderate compared to Taylor's fights.

Maybe, but the real eye poppin' win in that lot was Joe's masterclass over Lacy - that was the type of showing that puts your name up in lights. Whereas Taylor has some great wins on paper, but trouble is he sent alot of people asleep in the process.

It depends how you look at it. Eubank and Lacy were in a position to hit Joe hard and ferociously. So too were Mitchell and Brewer.

Taylor's not encountered any power yet. Won't, in fact, until he fights the winner of tonight's undercard. Despite having opposition that looks great on paper, how many times has he been threatened physically?

I felt McGiggle's article was nonsense. UK papers are starting to say that Taylor must look good v Cory if he is to stir interest in a Calzaghe fight! That avoids the real question - can Calzaghe persuade Taylor to fight him.

For some reason Joe is NOT attending the Tennesse card tonight, now. And there are already hints that they cannot lure Taylor, with things see-sawing back to a Kessler fight...I'm sorry but this is just a load of wank and always has been. Endless buggering around.

But I do feel that there is a push for Taylor to fight Calzaghe, somewhere. Symbolically, it means a fair bit: Joe ruined Lacy, who was going to be Taylor's megabucks rivalry in the near future...

I believe Warren is playing a waiting game because Taylor won't make 160 for much longer and where do you go except into a straight title shot. So it's just a stand off and are we all supposed to spunk up all ove the plce because rival camps are feinting and counter feinting and bluffing from afar.

Boring.
