Is Kickett Aboriginal? The reason I ask is that there was an AFL footballer named Derek Kickett some years ago. And he could fight a bit

What I've got in BoxRec is correct. 88-2 was trainer Craig Christian's sense of humour when Willie fought in Indonesia.

Dale Kickett gave Phil Reid of the Eagles won of the worst hidings ive seen on a footy feild, Reid was covered up on the ground in the fetal position and Dale had absolutley smashed him.

Saw the fight on Friday night and was really impressed, and what impressed me even more was when the commintator said that he gt beat by NathanDi Carlo in his last ameteur fight.
I think Tommy Browne was also beaten by Nathan in his last lilly white fight.

How good is this Di Carlo................

It'll be good to see Nathan join the pro ranks after Olympics. Seen him a few times on Pro-Am shows. I think He's fighting again @ Mansfield Tavern on June 8 - Promoted by his dad Angelo. The show is on FOX, but he's fight will probably happen before the show goes to air.

Had my first real look at this bloke last night. His speed and composure was obviously very good, especially for a bloke with 5, well 6 now, pro fights.

Just a couple of things though, he tends to flick his jab which is a pet hate of mine and he seems a bit slappy at times. I understand he only has 6 fights under his belt and I'm sure he'll work on it but just thought I'd throw it out there...

Now one final thing. Talk of him fighting Gairy St Clair in one fights time is absurd!!! KICKETT WILL GET HURT!!! It will also set his career back a step or two not to mention shatter his confidence. Yes he is a good prospect but why on Earth would you feed him to a hungry St Clair at this stage of the game!?! It is really not fair of Craig to push him like this.

Anyway I also wanted to add that Kickett could do with a new handle as well... "Cool Willy" doesn't really do it, if you ask me.

I like Cool Willy, it's different.
Of course he's only a little guy, so he can't really call himself Big Willy, and Little Willy would definitely not work.

I was impressed by Kickett, but agree that it is way too early for him to be fighting St Clair. There are plently of guys out there better than the guys he has been fighting, but below St Clair.

Seeing that Kickett won the Australian Super Feather title in his last fight, shouldn't he be prepared to take on any challengers? Has the national title slipped that much in importance?

I hardly think beating a bloke with a losing record, even if it was for the vacant Australian Super Feather title, means you are ready for former World Champion, 38-4, Gairy St Clair...

StClair is to experienced for him at the moment, Give Kickett at least 10-15 fights before stepping up to world level. StClair was world champion last year and Kickett was still an amature.

Agreed that he is not ready for world titles, but I can remember when the Australian Champion was the best fighter at his weight in the country. My question is why has the national title been devalued so much?

For the same reason that everything has changed in boxing since the australian title meant this. When the australian title meant this, there was only one world champion per division and there was really no such thing as PABA and NABA and OPBF and all these other regional titles that now give you an automatic ranking within at least one of the alphabet organisations. The Australian title doesn't offer this so the Aussie title is now contested by either young up and coming fighters like Kickett or by fighters that are never going to make it outside the domestic scene like Marc Bagero
