I know styles make fights and all that, but Jermain Taylor was awful against Cory Spinks and, to my way of looking at it, distinctly fortunate to get the judges' verdict. I had it Spinks 116-112.
He is one paced, does not impose his jab and either cannot or will not throw uppercuts. Against Calzaghe he would be a sitting duck. Too slow, not enough punches and not enough variety. He has clearly regressed since the Hopkins fights. Mr Warren should make that fight now, because US TV would like it, as would ITV or whichever network covers the contest in the UK. More importantly, it would be a very lucrative night for Joe and another W in the career record.
Taylor looked poor

But doesn't that just underline the fact that the only meaningful fight for Joe in a boxing rather than monitary sense is Kessler. The Blade wrote:Against Calzaghe he would be a sitting duck. I had Spinks winning 1st time and Taylor winning 2nd time I watched. Only way I had Taylor winning was on the more solid shots & the fact that I changed two Spinks rounds to even rounds.
Those overpaid US writers who had Taylor 8-4 are lying bastards. These fights were like Toney-Griffin 1 and 2, without the 3 or 4 Toney right hands per round!
Taylor has something but he was poor. The only fight he can take is Pavlik, who may flatten him. Thanks to fights with Hopkins and Wright, Jermain just doesn't have a positive attitude.
He can forget a fight with Calzaghe - $10 million? haha - and will have to keep draining down to 160. If he prices out of Pavlik, his bloody mandatory, I will lose all respect. His rival emerged wonderfully on Saturday and ti is here that Taylor will prove himself, or fail miserably.
HBO are not willing to dig deep in their pockets for Calzaghe-Taylor. They DID for Taylor-Wright because they were optimistic about Taylor then. But now, I'm guessing Jermain's stock has plummeted. No, what will happen is HBO will not make it tasty enough for Taylor...In the interview, Merchant basically embarrassed Taylor into saying he'd fight Pavlik and because of Kelly's strong showing this is the only natural fight...Why was Joe not at Taylor-Spinks? He knows this fight isn't happening.

I've never understood the fuss. Taylor is just sh#t. No matter how many times the media tell us how good he is, he goes 12 rds and cant even score knockdowns over shopworn middleweights or small welterweights.
Joppy, Hopkins twice, Winky, Ouma, Spinks....... the guy cant punch, and his boxing is shitty too. Kelly Pavlik ices this chump.

I just dont think Taylor likes boxing, hes in it for the money and he seems the sort who will retire when he loses..not for him the journey back to the top
