FRANK MALONEY - I wanted to kill myself

Post by REAL_DEAL »

from the sun

I wanted to kill myself
By PAT SHEEHAN

FRANK MALONEY was ready to commit suicide because he was so in debt during Lennox Lewis’ early career.

He ran a pub that subsidised his boxing business as he put Lewis on the path that led to world heavyweight title glory.

Maloney, Lewis’ former manager, revealed: “Driving home from London one night, I felt the world caving in.

“As I turned off the motorway I headed at speed towards trees.

I felt suicidal and would have been smashed to pieces before a mixture of fear and survival made me swerve to safety.”

Just think.

If he had done himself in, we wouldnt have to put up with bullshit like Scott Harrison is the best boxer to come out of Scotland, or Tony Oakey is the best Light Heavyweight in the World, or Matthew Skelton will win the World Title.

I dont know whether Maloney needs to see a Doctor about his suicidal tendencies, but he needs to see one about his acute verbal diarrhoe'a.

Agreed. He talks the biggest load of bullshit I've heard in talking up his fighters. It seems if you pay him his commission you automatically become a world class fighter.

The downside of this, of course, is that when his fighter eventually gets beat, it's not Maloney that looks stupid (although he quite obviously is), but his fighter. Scott Harrison is a prime example.

Don King was almost right when he said that Maloney was an "intellectual midget". I don't know if I'd go that far.

Do I take it that you guys don't believe Danny Hunt is the hottest prospect in British boxing?

Danny Hunt seems a nice kid and he can fight a bit, he's no mug.

But he is limited.

By talking up these fighters to leagues way above them, Maloney is doing them a disservice.

Did anyone see the Barney-Oakey fight. Oakey looked worse than a novice amateur, he cant box, he cant fight, he cant punch. He's the worst example of a professional boxer with a claim to a title I have ever seen.

As for Scott Harrison, he's a good fighter and certainly better than Oakey could ever hope to be.

Harrison needs a good trainer to teach him a plan B and how to fight on the back foot.

He should go to America and get some quality sparring and advice.

If he does'nt, Medina will beat him again.

I believe Frank Maloney is a genuinely loyal guy, especially to his fighters. Boxing needs more like him.
