New York, May 21 : Two-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, George Foreman, says that a secretly administered drug caused him to lose his 1974 'Rumble in the Jungle' to Muhammad Ali.
He writes in his memoirs, God in My Corner, that just the before the match had begun, his ex-trainer gave him a cup of water that tasted as if it contained some medicine.
"I almost spit it out . . . Man, I know this water has medicine in it," the New York Post quotes him as writing.
Foreman says that telling the matter to his trainer proved of no use because the latter denied that the water was spiked.
He writes that the drug had started to make him go weaker by the time the bout entered the third round, and Ali eventually knocked him out in the eighth round.
"I climbed into the ring with that medicinal taste still lingering in my mouth . . . After the third round, I was as tired as if I had fought 15 rounds. What's going on here? Did someone slip a drug in my water?" he writes.
Foreman claims he was drugged in Ali fight.

..buzz...has he retracted this one already? i was surprised to read it in the paper because over the past several years in interviews he has said that he's finally come to grips with his being beaten by ali most fairly. he has said, good naturedly, that he came up with all kinds of excuses for a time after the fight...he just couldn't accept that he lost. he even scoffed at the "beating the count" stuff...said "if the referee hadn't counted me out ali would have killed me"...and he didn't say because he was drugged.
(actually in several viewings i think he did beat the count by a nanosecond...and ali would have done him great harm if the ref had let ali smack him some more)
too much trouble to roll back to an earlier post and i don't remember who wrote the one about foreman banging ali all around the ring or words to that effect for several rounds. whoever wrote it may have been slipped a drug himself.

I heard that a 20-year-old up-and-coming middleweight named Marvin Hagler introduced himself to George a couple hours before the fight, said he was a big fan, and when George went to shake his hand, he accidentally lightly brushed Hagler's ribcage with his pinkie, which made Hagler wince in pain and his knees nearly buckle because everybody knew that Hagler had a glass midsection, so then in retaliation Hagler thumbed George in the eye just like he did Roldan 10 years later, then while George was on the ground screaming in pain and his handlers were kneeling to try to help him, Marvin swapped out George's water bottles with some identical-looking ones the Ali camp had asked him to smuggle in, and anyway it was widely known up and down the east coast in the days leading up to the fight that George was gonna take a dive whether he wanted to or not, they even had the same guy who made Liston take a dive in the second Ali fight and who really killed Kennedy come in and tell Big George what the score was, and stuff. I'm writing this on the internet, so you know it's true.
