Can the reference book mentioned here (1981 Ring Record Book?) still be easily purchased anywhere? Are there any other similar reference books available? I'd love to see annual heavyweight ratings through out the 70's to the mid 80's. I'd hate to ask to have so much posted...more than willing to purchase such a reference guide. Also, is there any site on the web where such information (annual ratings) could be found...I have run numerous searches to no avail.

ALSO: Hate to say it but heavyweight boxing was more exciting in the 70's - 80's. Where have all the good YOUNGER heavyweights gone? If one checks the top 50 on boxrec.com, you notice that only a hand full are under 30 years old and many are over 40! I like George Foreman but I think he started an undesirable trend in the late 80's...coming back, ultimately winning the title back at 45 (perhaps with a lucky punch)...now everybody wants to try it. Heavyweight division needs an infusion of young blood!!! Too many old guys...you don't see that many old guys in any other physically demanding sport (unless you consider GOLF physically demanding, I do not!)...Other opinions & comments welcomed...

Can someone please post the bantamweight rankings for 1985 and 1986, 1986-87 super bantamweight rankings, 1988-89 featherweight rankings, and finally the super featherweight rankings for 1990-1992? Thank you.

*Alex* wrote:Terap – thanks for the film info. I’d especially like to get hold of footage of any of Jimmy Wilde’s fights.
Then check out this video. It has some extensive Wilde fight film.

Cheers Ric, some great fights on there. I wonder if there's any footage out there of Wilde boxing in his prime.

Sweet Scientist, you should be able to find the '81 ring record book on here:

Tomato-Can wrote:Jaclem inspired this idea earlier. The 1981 edition of The Ring Record Book contains their annual ratings from 1924-1980. As a service to our readers, anyone who would like to see the ratings of a certain weight division for a certain year, just ask and I will post it here.

One of the deepest divisions I have seen is the 1952 welterweights.

World Champion
Kid Gavilan
1. Johnny Bratton
2. Bobby Dykes
3. Joe Miceli
4. Gil Turner
5. Chuck Davey
6. Billy Graham
7. Johnny Saxton
8. Cliff Curvis
9. Art Aragon
10 Danny Womber

PS - Unlike flex I will not imply that they come from superior memory or that I am somehow doing a great service here.
I just purchased my own 1981 Ring Record book and will be providing the same service to members of my boxing forum at http://www.boxingfanatics.com

Thank you so much for inspiring this idea. :)

P.S.

Do you know if there is a more recent Ring Record book? I know there is one for 1985 but I haven't come across anything that would lead me to believe that a more recent edition has been printed.

ANNUAL RING RATINGS

HEAVYWEIGHTS SHOWN AS 1953 & 1954.
The dates must be incorrect Patterson did not become champ until 1956.

Anyone have the Ring Ratings for 1930-36 ? The Welterweight division back then has to be one of the deepest in history.
