Bookie got Odds up for Calzaghe - Kessler
Seems a bit odd considering the fight hasn't been made.
But more interesting are the odds:
Kessler is favourite is at 1.75 dec 3/4 frac and Calzaghe is at evens.

I think Kessler IS the favourite and unlike lacy isnt one dimensional and has been beating good fighters convincingly - whereas lacy was knocking over fighters that were past it(like pemberton and reid). It is a close fight and thus not one I'll be betting on - well not much anyway maybe a tenner here or there.

If it happens, Kessler turns him into a cream cake. Kessler has all the boxing ability and attitude he needs.
I don't wish to follow Joe anymore. All these stupid articles about I want to fight so and so. This has gone on for ten bloody years.
Things are going to be very nice at super middle. Kessler, Mundine, Pavlik (after he gets Taylor out the way and moves up...he's the same size as Andrade FFS!), Bute, Inkin, Froch, maybe Hanshaw if he's good. Then you have Dawson one weight up, Diaconu as well.
Joe had a sensational night versus Lacy, but that was clearly it. Joe can be as hard to watch as John Ruiz in some fights. What UK boxing needs is for someone like Froch to just knock him out and have done with it. Froch has size and power and we clearly haven't seen his best. Joe has fitness, workrate, speed, yet is still easy to hit. Failing Froch, Inkin would suffice - a very skilled operator who can be a joy to watch.

Joe is putting a stain on this division with his costant callouts and never actually fighting the best in the Division.
He didnt fight Ottke, Beyer, Lucas and now is avioding the only other top fighter at 168. Kessler has said he will come to England so for fornicate sake make the fight. Offer Kessler 5 million gross surely Frank can make millions out of this fight even if he paid Joe and Mikkel 5 mil each.

Nothing average about super middleweight. A division where hard sluggers like Lacy and Andrade can get an absolute pasting by the champions of the division.Tsukiyomi wrote:No offence but Kessler Is lucky he's In an average division like Super Middleweight to be so overrated.
Froch Vs Calzaghe would be a mismatch, all Froch has done has fought Euro and Domestic level fights while struggling with some yet people are thinking he'll be a match for Calzaghe.
Can you explain how Kessler, Mundine, Froch, Bute, Inkin are average? Oh, I get it: 'Joe would of dominated them.'
There is a ton of talent up at super middleweight. Kessler included. It's a division where Jermain Taylor would be badly out of sorts even though that's the class that his body needs to be in.
If anything, it's Joe Calzaghe who has benefited from a mediocre 1997-2003 era. Now that it's an exciting era he can still fight anybody the WBO let him, so he can continue to rack up meaningless defense against meaningless defense until his hands finally give up on him.
Kessler's done things the proper way and has shown fine ring generalship. If he wasn't a consistently excellent boxer then surely he would have slipped up by now. Plenty of opportunities to be exposed as mediocre - Andrade, Beyer, Mundine for starters.
Joe can continue to scrape the bottom of the barrel and -guess what - look decidedly mediocre as he does so. If that's a fine champion for you Max you're welcome to it.

Well out of your list I've only seen Kessler,Froch and clips of Bute.
Kessler hasn't shown anything else other than throwing straights and straight combinations followed with the odd hook. He also just steps In and out or covers up for defence. Don't see too much special In him, he is good though.
Froch takes too many punches to give those KO"s he boasts his mouth off about and for a guy who claims to be world class, thats too many shots. He's not fought beyond Euro level.
Froch would get a boxing lesson from Joe, Hennessy hypes his fighters so bad even when they've not even proven the hype yet.
I do see the similarities between Bute and Joe but he's a lot more of a slower version with more sting and less defence from the clips I've seen on youtube.
Andrade Isn't even proven world class to be considered a guy who could of won In the first place, he had no chance and showed that when he lost. Beating a come backing Otis Grant shouldn't of warranted him a shot, Kessler fans make up excuses though when Mikkel fights someone though.
Beyer was mediocre himself, people criticise Calzaghe but Beyer fought some guys as bad as some of Joe's opp like Colajanni for example.
Kessler fought the shot Lucas and some of you criticise Joe for fighting shot fighters.
Wasn't Mundine considered timid at the time according to some fans? They go on about how Mundine's Improved and then he's scheduled to fight a guy unrated In the WBA and Soliman blows up to fight him.
Some people who criticise Joe are bad hypocrites themselves.
Of Course Joe has fought some mediocre fights but he's also fought decent opposition too.
There Is talent In Super Middleweight but I don't see the fuss In Kessler being a threat to Calzaghe, he's a threat to anyone else at the weight though.
So when Joe has a bad night he's looked Mediocre to you? He's more exciting them Jab Jab one two Kessler.

You may not like Kessler's style. But he is poised, dominating and effective. The Dane's been in with good sluggers and fine boxers and if he wasn't special I feel he would have slipped up by now.
He's not a short puncher, hence the straight long range stuff. His jab is arguably the best in boxing, and I liked his cool under Andrade's fire. Andrade is a huge guy who could reach Kessler at any point and never stopped throwing. I don't think Kessler won all 12 rds - 9-3 or 10-2 is fairer, but that was a complete performance.
We are on the verge of a great era of super middles. I'm not only big on Kessler, but all those guys who are coming up. Hopefully Hanshaw will be added to that list by beating Roy Jones. Hopefully Taylor as well, because his body is less effective at 160. Sadly, I just don't think Joe is going to have any part of this era. He just won't be involved because for whatever reason it is too much trouble getting interesting opponents.
Joe was sensational v Lacy which makes it even worst!
Bute is scheduled to fight Bika in an IBF elim. Won't be surprised if Lucian shows Joe how it's done, as he did with Salem. At that point Bute will be one to avoid.

Shows Joe how It's done? Bika didn't win more than 2, 3 rounds at most. He was dirty and mostly survived. He was strong but the level In class showed when Joe kept to his skills.
Aye Kessler Isn't a short puncher but you can still try some Inside fighting, he hasn't shown any and that would trouble him with Joe and Joe's workrate would give Mikkel fits with Mikkel's one paced style.

Joe made hard work of Bika and it was amateurish. Ditto with Salem. It was horrendous, messy stuff. Leaving his chin exposed. Bah! I'd say Joe's comp (Lacy aside) is so average that he's lapsed into amateurish habits. Bute will control Bika and long range, lash him with southpaw combos and have him totally under control. inside fighter? shit, that's a different fighter. most guys can't get close to kessler. he can't do everything.
i don't think kessler will be champion forever. he will lose some fights because there's all sorts of stylists, punchers, skilled men in his own division. But i reckon he'll come out of it an outstanding fighter in what will be a memorable era. already he's been a fine champ.
he got on HBO in what, his 4th title defense. Showtime didn't even want Joe after he beat Robin Reid. Larkin euphemistically said "He isn't ready, yet". Joe has done his thing in getting Europe noticed in the middle divisions - by anihilating Lacy - but I say he's paved the way for Kessler, Bute, Inkin and co to crossover and make a bigger impression.

Amateurish because he got Into a tear up but still won 9 rounds against Bika.
Kessler's comp Is pretty average and has simular unproven fighters at world level In It too like Andrade. You weren't calling Bika average before Joe beat him.
Well he can't just be a one dimensional straight shot fighter for too long, he'll need Inside fighting If someone does get close, Joe tucks his chin In with fast hooks Inside. Of course he can't do everything but fighters need more than one game plan and need to treat fights like a chess game.

i make calzaghe favourite.E wrote:Yeah but what do you think about the odds- IE KEssler the favourite?
I think I would put my money on Calaghe who produces in the big fights....
i think kessler will pose some problems.
but i doubt his stamina and i think calzaghe's speed of punch causes kessler big problems.
amateurish because he was leaving his jaw open while punching, leaning forward head first, allowing himself to get draged into a maul. well if kessler's comp is average then joe's has been average diluted over a ten year title reign. it's a fact that kessler can match ALL Joe's best wins and he did this over about 3 years / 4 defenses, without ANY of the nonesense opposition to spoil the fun.Smokin Joe Calzaghe wrote:Amateurish because he got Into a tear up but still won 9 rounds against Bika.

if you get to see bute v bika, i'm sure you will see a truly professional, clean effort. just as bute did with salem.
i'm not a joe hater. i'm just fed up with him and the lacy win can only carry him so far. there's so much to look forward to at super middleweight.

In English.
After a meeting between Mogens Palle and the Calzaghe-promoter allegedly in London it was difficult to see the dream-fight become a reality, but now B.T. learns that Calzaghe is ready for safe-deposit box bangs in Copenhagen this autumn. - We have said ed. for Mogens (Pallet) that we are ready to box in Denmark on those terms, he wishes. Consequently his original offer. Ask Mogens what he says to it, allegedly B.T. tells The offer in question was five mill. of dollars (27,5 mill. of DKK) for Calzaghe for a fight in Denmark in September. - He has sent something, yes. But this is no inferior work, and there have to lawyers inward. That whirs with numbers and different offers. It isn't yet to say where it all ends. I do not have several comments just now, it said from Mogens Palle to B.T. Thus there is again the lives dream-fight.

Frank's site seem to say that the fans want Joe to fight Taylor more but Frank doesn't want to offer Taylor 6 million according to Frank's Column.

they can name drop all they want but that won't bring the big fight closer. let's say it does happen. ok, the sat night revellers will go to it. but the real fight fans will be so fed up with team calzaghe antics of deferment that ultimately no one should care. all this is 5 years overdue. the big fight should have ahppened after the mitchell fight.
