That ref is wank!

Post by bennie »

Why do the WBC continue to use that ref! He's the Terry O'Connor of world championship refereeing: indecisive at moments when he should be just the opposite. That point deduction in the first round was a classic example. He looked like he was giving a quick thumbs up to the judges more than deducting a point!

I don't understand the rules, he said it was an accidental butt but that he had to take away 1 point from Brodie, why?

Agreed, since when is it WBC mandatory rules to dock a point after 30 seconds following an accidental (which the ref admited) clash of heads.

Bollocks, however, agreed with Glenn and Ian, Brodie will be lucky if he gets a draw.

Be interesting to see what JohnShep has to say.

Owner of this site and one of the promoters of Brodie!

The referee won't be banning anyone. If he does, I'll look into every one of his world title fights because I can recall him attracting criticism in this country before. He's too close to the action, too indecisive in his actions at crucial moments, and breaks up the action when fighters are still punching.
How do you know when a referee has done a good job? When he hasn't been seen. This referee was so visible it was laughable.

This could turn into quite a useful subthread.

Is it correct for Referee's to be so actively involved in major boxing sites.

Obviously, this is not supposed to be a personal attack or anything - just a question that might cause some discussion.

I mean, Bennie's thread on Brodie's life might trigger a ref to subconscious award him rounds in the close fights. Before, I get banned or sued - I'm not saying they do - just geniunelly didn't know they were involved in major websites.

Kevin, what you said is something I didn't know. Of course I was aware, fighters, trainers, promoters, journalist post, but active referees? I find it odd.

He's known as Mrboxing used to run a rather good website on European Boxing but closed it down around a year ago.

They're all on here, Stu. Barry McGuigan's on here for sure, and Ian Darke. Interesting point you raise about referees though. They should remain aloof, but I suppose it's impossible. I mean, to get involved in refereeing in the first place they had to be interested in the sport, i.e, they were big fans.

Barry???? Well, I understand if he wants to keep it quiet - but I just want to say a few things to you (Barry). You are a legend, your my icon, the way you reuinited your country through your fights was fantastic. Plus the stuff you've done for Omagh left me speechless.

On a lighter note, I love the way you clap and scream with laughter when a boxer cracks a joke and when you put in these huge words in a sentence. My favourite "Barryism" is when you used the word temerity in a sentence.

Cheers Barry.

I knew that Darke checked the sites.

Sorry for going off topic, but Barry is the man.

Barry is the man. The ultimate sign of class in a boxer, is a boxer who knows when to walk away - and stay away. Think of how few world champions have managed to do that? Rocky Marciano, Carlos Monzon, Gene Tunney, McGuigan, Jim Watt, Naseem Hamed...
I can't think of too many more.

Bennie,
Having not been an eye witness I cannot comment other than to say… :o

Daniel’s done a lot of Mega Fights.
If Daniel made mistakes it was an off night. (Like boxers)
His refereeing of Injin Chi’s fight with Morales means he was more familiar with his style than Brodie’s. That could have an effect mentally. :-?

When I logged on to the internet for the first time in Feb 97, his contribution to the internet boxing news was the only news from the European Continent.
MR Boxing’s recommendations & links led to the very bookmarks I have to this day.
Having communicated with him on occasion I can say he has a very organized state of mind. 8)
He has contributed many boxing results to this site which would have been difficult to get.
I’ll bet if anybody was confused, it wasn’t Daniel.
He has to follow the WBC rules, even thought some of them don’t make any sense.
Just like us guys do at work!

As far as his relationship to this site, it is no different than Anibal Miramontes of Fight fax who has judged fights for the WBC & the state of Florida.
It’s a revolving door everywhere U go.
I can only say for me personally that I am proud to be listed on the same page. :D

I’m sure U all must be disappointed Brodie didn’t become champ.
But don’t blame the referee unless it’s clearly warranted.

Stu,
Don’t let the old Seconds Out or EastSide Boxing Forum’s make U paranoid.

Kevin’s pulling yer leg. :D

Opposition is tolerated, otherwise my a*s would have been gone Long ago.

Although it showed on a replay that the ref did indeed decuct a point. I have to say he didn't make it very clear at all, probably the least impressive point deduction I have ever seen made in a ring.

Poor showing.
