National Boxing Board in 1921

Post by Cap »

January 11, 1921 in a report from New York City it was declared that, "..Formation of a governing body for the control of professional boxing in the United States was begun here yesterday at a convention of delegates appointed by the governors of 15 states.

"The convention re-assembled today to effect a permanent organization to be tentatively known as the national board of boxing control. The board will endeavour to obtain uniform boxing laws in all states, limit purses to contestants and admission prices, and compel champions to defend their titles within stated periods.

"In addition to the appointed delegates, P.T. Mulqueen, representing the Athletic commission of the province of Ontario, was present to obtain information for the benefit of the sport in the Dominion."

What a radical idea!

Unfortunately, on the 13th of January, this was reported,"...The state boxing commissions of New York and Massachusetts have declined to become members of the new national boxing association."
