I just downloaded the brackets to take a look and I discovered that Jason Montgomery and J'Leon Love have been moved along in the brackets. They weren't supposed to fight until tonight (against Shawn Estrada and Angel Santos respectively), but I'm wondering if they are getting walkovers, or if its just a mistake.

Possibility they either didn't make weight this morning or were medically DQed - I emailed Julie Goldsticker for an explanation. Will let you know what she replies back - if she does.

Yo dawg pretty good picks :TU: by I don't see how ya can have Arias in da' finals when he on the same side of the brackets dawg :o so i think you need to reassess and it should be more like Hatley or Thurman versus "Scooby" Andrade in da' finals :TU: Also, if anyone can get Warren in da' finals with out the "mercy rule" i doubt cuz no-one has been able to escape him past the 3rd round/asalto in the past years or back in da' day cuz. Besisdes even though Alafa's style  ain't pretty - he is damn effective so i don't see how Dennis get by but we see bro. later "Unit" :box:

They both boxed yesterday. They both were scheduled to box last night as they were among the 20 or so boxers who didn't have automatic byes into the quarters.

jpm1978 - could you try typing in English? Reading your whatever-it-is slang is a bit hard.

Emile - the brackets weren't right - now they are. Estrada is boxing Love today.

LOLz if u read my post after that, i said thats how'd it go if brackets were diff

but yeh Dennis is a good fight FAst wit tight defense and he knows how to get in & out

warren couldn't Put em away last time getting a 15-2 decision & with everyones adrenaline rushing it should make for a good fight

But the Kid Jorge Abiague is also something to watch out for very very strong and fast, just doesn't move his head that well, therefore that'll keep him from getting to far in the tournament but trust he'll sneak up on some guys i've seen him fight many times

Molina

Post by holeymoley99 »

I have been high on Javier Molina since I saw him at the Eastern trials, beating Karl Dargan is a huge win. Now he has my pick to make the squad Jermey Bryan in a rematch in a few weeks and it will be battle.

Good to see Wohosky score a crucial win at 125, it is truly wide open and many have already noted. Troy has Williams next, hopefully his nose heals in the next week or so.

Bummed to see Shimmell lose by a point, I was pulling for him to do well.

All my picks make it to the Boxoffs,so far so good.

emile wrote:Boxrec posters ctill and Lucas Runion both went down today :-? I figured Lucas was in for a tough fight with Lenroy Thompson and the winner might go all the way to the semis. I'm more surprised Clarence lost, since I'm not really familiar with the guy who beat him - William Moore Fort Carson.

Other losses of note (to me anyway) - William Rosinsky, Bear Richardson, Peter Haro, Jorge Diaz, Oscar Molina, Isaiah Williams-Windley.
Clarence went for the early KO and almost got it. He gave the guy 2 standing 8 counts. However, he was gassed out after 2 rounds. He tried to box thru the 3rd round, but got ever more tired. He could barely stand in the 4th round. He didn't get hit, he just bent over and put his hands on his knees and the ref stopped it because Clarence could not continue.
Will lost a tough bout. Bear lost his bout at the scales. Jorge boxed a very tough opponent - Sergio Perales.

I really like Han's attack style, he should be a really entertaining pro who could go far. Perhaps someday he will be as good as his sister Jennifer.

Huge win for Dominic Wade, but Fernando Guerrero looked very good. The selection process for the Olympic Trials eliminated some very good boxers in each weight class in the 2 rounds prior to the quarter-finals due to the luck of the draw. There are a few boxers that made it to the quarters that aren't as good as boxers who lost. Edwin Rodriguez, Karl Dargan and Hector Ramos should be in the Olympic Trials. There are many others too.

Troy was very lucky that he wasn't stopped due to his nose bleeding in his bout against Rheno Nieto. The ref would wipe the blood from his nose 3 or 4 times in each of the 3rd and 4th rounds.
I too was bummed to see Jordan lose tonight by a point. He was down by 1 point going into the 4th and I thought he had clearly won the 4th round. His opponent held frequently in the 4th and was hurt several times. The ref cautioned Graves twice for holding in the 4th round and then just yelled break several times after that rather than giving him a warning and taking away a point (actually adding 2 points to Jordan's score). I thought Jordan had done enough to win the round, but the computer score for the 4th round was 5-5.
Jordan didn't get the decision and he just learns from the experience. He didn't get hurt, didn't get bloody, didn't get beat up or stopped. He lost a close bout. Quantis Graves was a gracious winner and I wish him well.

Hey #1fan

I just wanted you to know that I have talked to Mike several times over the last few days. He is a nice young man and very articulate. He boxed very well in his bout against Felix Stewart and today against Donovan Dennis. Donovan Dennis has improved in the last year and surprised me by defeating Justin Jones and by making the bout against Mike Wilson closer than I thought it would be. Donovan moved a lot and made it difficult for Mike, but Mike never lost his composure and I thought he clearly won the bout. I'm shocked the score was 10-6. I had Mike winning by 10 points (16-6). I try to count only punches that I believe at least 3 of the judges, if not all of them, would have seen.

Did you run around the ring to catch all five judges points of view? How do you know which three judges pushed the button for which boxer? :box:

I'm truly sorry Dargan lost. Will be interesting to see how he does in the Pan Ams. Javier's coach told me several months ago that Javi could be Dargan. And he was right. I'm concerned that Javier has no international experience. Our best, who make up our Olympic Team, may do nothing in Beijing.

:-? 9 of your 11 picks were guys who haven't fought yet, and of the other two, one of them did lose (Dargan). Plus three of your finalists also lost (Arias, Rodriguez, Dennis). :) Good call of Raynell Williams though. Seems like Raynell has been around for a little while - does anyone know how old he is?

Mel - I feel bad for Dargan, who put in his dues as an amateur and will miss the big payoff. But if he couldn't get the wins he needed to get the bye or to make the Trials, it seems unlikely he would have caught fire in Beijing anyway - plus his intl amateur experience was pretty spotty. At the ripe old age of 22, he didn't seem to be gaining any dominance, so perhaps it is best for a new face at 141, which I think was never going to be a good weight for the US. Perhaps somebody like Danny Garcia or Brad Solomon can keep improving rapidly over the next year and squeeze out a bronze in China. I'll be looking forward to seeing Dargan as a pro, and I hope he has a nice career.

I can only speculate on Dargan's loss to Mike Dallas at the 2006 PAL and his recent loss to Molina. I didn't see either bouts, although yesterday's was close, per the report on USAB web site.

We need to give our top boxers meaningful international competition - often. The team will be picked in August and then prepare for the Worlds in October. After that are the two Americas qualifiers, if needed. Most of our boxers will be unprepared for the biggest international competitions in the world - the World Championships and the Olympics.
