Jamie Moore comes fights in Wigan

Jamie Moore will take on South Africa's Vincent Vuma in an international twelve rounder in Wigan on the 6th July.

The thirty-one year old South African will be paying only his second visit to Europe, he lost on a majority decision to Reda Zam Zam on his first visit in 2004.

Vuma is currently the South African light-middleweight champion Vuma has won 22 of his 24 fights to date, and is unbeaten in his last nine fights.

Top of the bill at Robin Leisure Centre in Wigan is the British title fight between Martin Power and Jason Booth.


Lookin forward to this first Gomez on the 24th june and then jamie moore a couple of weeks later to crackin shows both in Wigan get in tere!

Not quite sure what to make of this contest, i suppose it will be good international experience for Moore on a decrnt main event, however i get the feeling it's the prime Moore that should be headlining European level shows now. He showed against Lujan he has different dimensions to his game and with his swashbuckling style he isn't going to be around forever at a decent level.

Shame they could not bag him a crack at Piccirillo, even in Italy it would be great experience and a winnable crack. Anyway as for Vuma i have his fight somewhere with Zam Zam i think, will have to try and fish it out.

Silly fight for Moore IMO, the risk/reward ratio isn't right here. Great for the fans watching this fight - but don't see how it will steer him close to an European/World title fight. This guy sounds a bit dangerous but isn't a name and doesn't have a great ranking.

I hope not but Moore will probably come a cropper soon with his swashbuckling style, i think they should have been pushing the bigger fights sooner rather than later. This is a high risk/low reward fight as Stu mentioned, not sure of it's overall value.

I would have liked to have seen a world ranked/respected fighter a bit on the over the hill, but still has some ambition. Fighters like Verno Phillips, and Yori Boy Campas - both chasing a world title and ambitious with it - but are in definate decline.

Lujan turned to be a dissapointment that nobody (not even Moore if he wants are world title win) wants again.... but someone like Campas, Phillips and maybe Teddy Reid would be ideal for Moore. Will give him a fight, and if Moore cannot win then we know his level.

Teddy Reid is too far over the hill to be considered but I like your suggestion of Yori Boy Campas. 'Old round face' still has a sparkling ledger and his recent tough fight with Duddy reflects well on him.

Would like to see Moore in with a Campas, although I would expect the Mexican warrior would want a good few pesos for coming all the way over here..

Jamie stays busy and gets a bit of flack. Granted we would loved to see him in with Campas but they wanted to get him out and grabbed the first available name, I presume.

As long as he stays busy he is keeping himself in with a chance of getting the decent fights.

I am not giving anyone flack - just commenting on what I see as a sensible route into world class for the salford lad.

Its good to see our domestic fighters staying busy but at this stage of his career its surely more about positioning, in terms of ranking and recognisable name opponents, as opposed to straight forward activity?

I am sure Wood knows what he is doing and has Moore's long term plans mapped out - I am just eager to see him trading in the class he deserves to!

Zam Zam was never all that from what i ever saw of him, he was exciting and had a good fanbase but i always wondered why he was never moved up in class quicker.

At least Moore is staying active, i was hoping the matchup with Sechew Powell would come to fruition, that could have been a good step up.

He's number 10 with the WBC and this may curry favour with them...keep him in the good books so to speak

Good that boxing is coming to Wigan. Wigan isn't a traditional boxing town and I don't know when the last pro bill in Wigan was? Not for 30 years at least?

That there are two decent bills in the Robin Park is a good sign and hopefully the local populace will support the venture of both Steve Wood and Frank Maloney... see you there!
