Paulie Malignaggi's birthplace

Post by rampage »

I noticed that you have Malignaggi's birthplace listed as Brooklyn, New York. I am pretty sure he was actually born in Sicily. If you watch the fight between Miguel Cotto and Gianluca Branco, Malignaggi is the Italian translator for Branco's corner. The HBO guys explain somewhere during the fight that he speaks Italian because he lived in Sicily until he was (I think) seven, and he moved to New York from there--I believe they go so far as to say that he didn't speak a word of English when he arrived.

No, he was born in New York City, moved back to Sicily as an infant, and then moved back at six to the US.
