Tommy Morrison said that he wasn't too impressed with Lennox Lewis' power, and I think there may been some truth in it, considering Morrison got up rather quickly every time Lewis knocked him down; blaming his swollen and cut eye as being a problem with depth perception and getting caught with shots he simply couldn't see.

Trainer Emmanuel Stewart also said Lewis and himself were concerned of fighting Morrison after watching how well Morrison did against Razor Ruddock, afraid of his left hook power---so Lewis stayed mostly with his jab the entire fight, cutting Morrison in the first 38 seconds.

Morrison insists that Mercer was the harder puncher, than Lennox was.

If Lewis had landed 26 unanswered shots on him, Tommy would have died. Mercer was brilliant at setting Morrison up, and keeping him on the ropes so he wouldn't go down. That's a skill you don't see much in boxing these days. And does anyone else remember how scared he was of Ruddock's left hook? He didn't even throw the hook until the final round.
You have to understand, though, Morrison was pushed way, way too far to the top. He was more or less a man built on fighting four-six-eight round fighters and over the hill ex ex ex champions like Pinklon Thomas; then he fights arguably the toughest chinned man of the 1990's in Ray Mercer. He stood no chance.

He had greatly improved by the time he fought Lewis, and Lewis throwing 30-40 shots? Never. Lewis was never quite the guy to ever have an exchange with anybody, especially a power puncher, due to his weak defense and iffy chin.

And as far as the Ruddock fight, irregardless, it was Morrison's greatest win, in my opinion, and one of the more exciting fights of the 1990's.

Jaclem wrote:...milky... a fine post....with good examples of how fighters talk about who hit them the hardest. over the years they mention so many guys..and probably mean it each time.

the fact that granberry took time to make his silly negative comment is a compliment, of course.

as for paragraphs, i'd like to see the berry one take a polygraph when he discusses the events he claims at which to have appeared.
Jaclem,

Impress us all again with your fund of knowledge about Barbados Joe Walcott.

Then post some of your bitter, sour snipes at Rocky Marciano.

..does anybody know what the berry boy is talking about when he continually brings up my knowledge of barbados joe walcott?...i think he's suggesting i know very little and i don't know where he gets that idea. i've done a few posts mentioning the barbados demon but i'm not going to check back on them to see what i said. actually i know quite a bit about him, as i do other fighters from the dim past because i have been reading about boxing for a little over sixty years (damn..they went so fast!!)...and the old ring magazine during those years always had boxing history articles along with the current events...so it was easy to absorb a lot of data. i have more books about boxing in my library than this llittle fellow has probably ever heard of, and i've written more about boxing...including fighters such as walcott and his battles with mysterious billy smith, his winning the title in canada when he stopped rube ferns, his loss to the boxer with the wonderful name of honey mellody ...probably than he has read. that doesn't mean he doesn't know boxing history....i just wonder what sets him off about walcott on his replies to ANYTHING i post.

as for marciano...at this point anything i'd write would be redundant as i have expressed myself often about the skills of this brilliant defensive genius and his dazzling footwork.

thank you to those who have read this far...i assume the number will be in single digits.

STEVE COLLINS - Having fought and beaten both of them, who do you think was better, Nigel Benn or Chris Eubank?

"In terms of ability they were a match but in different ways. Eubank was the toughest fighter I ever fought whereas Benn was the hardest puncher I faced. Chris was very strong while Nigel was very awkward and unpredictable - as well as possessing tremendous power."

"To me they were both similar in terms of being hard to fight. Eubank could take a tremendous shot - far more than Benn - but Nigel could hit harder than Chris."

Roger Mayweather said Rafael Pineda was the hardest he was ever hit by.

"The best puncher that I ever fought was - and I fought 27 world champions - the hardest puncher that I can remember was Rafael Pineda. I was beating his ass for eight rounds. He hit me with a left hook. He only hit me one time. Now I've been knocked out where I'm still conscious. But I'm saying that's the hardest muffer that hit me and I felt it. I mean, knockouts don't ever hurt. But, I mean, when he hit me, it wasn't like I was struggling to get up. That muffer hit me and I was just gone!"

Shannon Briggs said George Foreman (surprise surprise) was the hardest puncher he ever faced.

Who was the Hardest Puncher you ever faced?
I'd have to say Geroge Foreman.

What was the hardest punch you've ever felt?
Again Geroge Foreman. 7th or 8th round he hit me so hard I still can't remember.

Yeah that's right, it was McCrory. I thought he likened it to being hit with two bags of cement but it's the same sentiment.

Leonard seems to change his mind on this subject.

I know this post is from 2007, but he once said that Marcos Geraldo was his hardest hitting opponent; he's also cites Hearns like you've said & on an interview on TalkSport Radio in the UK, around about 2009, he said that Roberto Duran hit him harder than any other opponent. :-?

Foreman nominated Lyle in the 70's, then Cooney in the 90's. I think he said Cooney was the hardest-hitter he ever fought, but I don't know if someone ever asked him directly who hit harder between them, & those fights were an awful long way apart.

To be fair, he'd be hard pushed to nominate Cooney before 1990.

I remember a few years back on FNF James Toney said the person who hit him hardest was Drake Thadzi. Because I remember Brian Kenny saying "Really Drake Thadzi huh?"

Everyone who fought Shavers said the same thing.

Ali said that after Shavers wobbled him in the 2nd round, he didn't know where he was for the rest of the fight & fought on instinct. :oo (That smiley looks like Ali too! :OhYes: )
