Murray , Langley, Saunders secure medals in Dublin.

England Trio Darran Langley, Joe Murray and Bradley Saunders Guranteed themselves at least a bronze medal at the Senior EU championships in Dublin, Ireland.

(48kg) Darran Langley (ENG) v Mo Nassir (WAL)

An intriguing bout for two boxers who now train together in Sheffield. A repeat of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games semi-final in which Darran won on his way to claiming a silver medal (19:13).

Darran prevailed again in this contest, but only on countback, following a 13:13 tie. Mo set the early pace and was leading 6:4 after R1, 9:5 after R2 and 11:10 after R:3 (despite receiving a public warning for holding). The final round was nip and tuck with no boxer ever able to establish a lead. The final result was decided 52-47 in Darran's favour following a count-back of the computer scoring system. Both boxers boxed well in the circumstances. Watch this rivalry in the months to come as both boxers compete for Beijing qualification at this weight category.

(54kg) Joe Murray (ENG) V Vittorio Parrinello (ITA)

Joe Murray (54kg) guaranteed England's second medal at the EU Championships with a classy display against an awkward Italian (Vittorio Parrinello). Joe was never in danger and looked extremely confident throughout. He ended the first round with a solid left hook to finish 9:4 up and never looked back. He was 15:9 after Round 2, 22:11 after Round 3 and still managed to accrue a 30:12 victory despite dancing for much of the 4th Round.

(64kg) Bradley Saunders (ENG) V Pavol Hlavacka (SVK)

Bradley Saunders put on a classy performance against Pavol Hlavacka (SVK) to secure the team's third medal. The Slovak had a considerable height and reach advantage. However, Bradley didn't take long to work out that the bodyshot was going to reap dividends and used it to eye-watering effect throughout the bout. Never behind, Bradley stretched his lead from 5:2 in Round 1, to 9:7 in Round 2, 19:8 in Round 3 and an impressive final round gave him a well-earned 26:11 victory. Bradley boxed well throughout the contest and didn't panic when his opponent drew to within a point in the 2 Round.

There are now 5 English boxers left in the contest.

What about Frankie Gavin's chances? How is his form recently? I Havent neard too much myself..

cant make 60KG im hearing so an ex oppo of mine Tommy Stalker seems to have taken the GB number 1 spot at 60kg

not too sure if Gavin defo cant make the weight, but they are the rumors

EU Championships is European Union Countries, probaly the 2nd best tournamant after the European Championships in Europe. It Will not do anthing for a place in the Olympics, but will help measure the team against the best boxers in Europe, minus the Russian of course.

British amateurs 1st chance to qualify for Olympics will come in October this year in the US at the World Championships, any of them that make it to atleast the last 8 will qualify regardless of any other tournaments.

The qualification process includes 10 events - the 2007 Senior World Championships, the Oceania continental championships and two Olympic qualifying tournaments in Africa, America, Asia and Europe.

to be honest that is a guess

i think the euros in 2008 are in liverpool, and they are sometimes used as an olympic qualifier

You are correct! i forgot that the Europeans are in Liverpool March 2008

It will act as one of the Olympic qualifying events for the Beijing Olympics

75Kg: James Degale (England) beat Savas Kaya (Turkey) 18-8

81Kg: Bahram Muzaffer (Turkey) beat Tony Jeffries (England) 17-12

Degale got off to a good start against the Turk. He was always in control, and put in some good shots. James looked a little rusty but did what was necessary to progress in the tournament and will have benefitted from the bout. The score after Round 1 4:2, Round 2 8:4, Round 3 15:6 and Round 4 18:8

I'm no expert on the amateurs, but it does seem this is the best team for a number of years. Its a shame we don't see more of it on TV.

with that qualifier being at home at i think we have a really good chance of getting a few to qualify

but to be honest i dont fancy our chances of any medals, even with a good draw

Ireland have done fantastically well to get 5 finalists - despite being hosts they still have to fight, and win, the fights.
