I was Birmingham and Midlands counties Champion 3 times from '97 - '99 and England Champ in 99!, have a modest record of 16-6, but havent fought now for 7 yrs... i'm 26 and havent been in ring now obviously for a long time, can i come back as a novice or not?? or would i still be classed as OPEN CLASS?? i love the sport and want to participate again, any help, guidance and advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Martin - your best bet for an answer is to post your question on http://www.warriorboxing.com. That's the boxing forum for the UK and they have a very active amateur discussion board.
In the US, once you advance to the OPEN CLASS you stay in the open class until you get old (35!!!) and move to the MASTERS division.
It can be hard for many boxers in the open class especially if they only have 11 to 15 bouts. It is even harder for them if they take a long time off and try to return. This is where a good coach is invaluable. The coach can hone your skills and get you good sparring. Do not rush your return to the ring. The coach can also make sure your first couple of bouts aren't against top open class boxers. Good luck.
