Matthew Hatton is he any good?

How do people rate him as boxer?
Imo he not even in the top 10 welterweight in Britain.

He is alot better than he was and is a trier but you cant honestly say he has 10% of his brother's natural ability.
I never thought he would make it past Area level but I think he could possibly change for the British following recent improvements.
Good luck to the lad - it cant be easy living in Ricky's shadow...

Pretty much agree with the assessments of KO Joe and Terrible Terry.
I don't know if he could make Light Welter (never looks in quite the shape as his brother) then he could, just maybe go a little futher than British title level (but probably not).
A lack of power with his fighting style is his major problem.

I think if he had pop, he would be quick enough to be sort of between British and EBU level. Somewhere along the lines of a Craig Doherty.hitman_hatton1 wrote:he's a bit on the slow side as well isn't he.stujones wrote:A lack of power with his fighting style is his major problem.
tends to get outworked by the busy ones.
I aint seen him lose, so I haven't seen him being outworked. All the fights I have seen him in, he's tended to be in control of.

Others have told it well "he's a trier" "a hard worker" "an honest pro" etc etc. I could'nt give any more praise than that. To talk directly about his boxing, i'd have to say he is a bit of a plodder with little natural talent. He has a lot of people helping/guiding him (hence his 30-3-1 record) who certainly would not be there if it was not for Ricky.
I dont know this Vazquez guy he's fighting tonight, but i have a feeling he could be beaten here.
Not one to watch unfortunate'ly.......

Hard to argue with anyone here, really: A decent domestic level fighter, who suffers in comparison to his brother, but has also had greater exposure than he perhaps deserves because of that same brother.
I would prefer to see him fighting the likes of Nuumbembe over here, rather than filling a spot over in Vegas, but beggars can't be choosers.

You know, I haven't seen Hatton since the aforementioned 'improvement', but it aways struck me that he simply struggled to 'put it all together'.
I would watch him in some fights and he'd look to have a good x but be lacking in y, then the next time he'd have a good p but a poor q, and then again he'd have a good y but a lacklustre p.
Oh, that all sounds rather conveluted, doesn't it? Anyway, I hope you all know what I'm getting at.
He seemed to have all the tools to be a decent British level fighter, but didn't put the whole package together with any kind of consistency. Perhaps, as he matures, he's finding the way?
I don't know, but I can't see him travelling up to anywhere close to European level at 147.

Its probably not the smartest thing to do. If Mathew was to take a pasting it could affect Ricky's concentration. If he was to get laid out cold then stretchered out, who knows how Ricky would deal with that!Goz wrote:I think Matthew looks a bit like an accident waiting to happen for Ricky in terms of him getting bashed up soon before the older brother is due on half an hour before for a big fight.

Exactly I was thinking the same thing, I also thought Matthew lost that fight comprehensively.ALI wrote:Its probably not the smartest thing to do. Heavilly biases Brit commentary, I wish we had commentators that called it how it was
I thought Matthew lost the fight controvesially on my card. I had Hatton two rounds up going into the 11th. He then lost the 11th 10-8 and lost the 12th 10-9. I think had he not been counted then he would have focused more in the 12th.
Very bias commentary from Duke and Bunce there. What was Bunce's card like? and Duke kept changing his score... He said he had Hatton 1 round up at one stage, then scored the next round to his oppoonent. When Rawling asked him "whats your card saying" Duke responded "I still have Hatton slighty up" and he wouldn't commit as to by how much. It was frustrating how he seemed so confident with his card when Hatton was winning the rounds, but when the opponent was coming back he wouldn't commit.
As for Bunce saying "there is no way any of the judges will score that round 10-8"... Sorry, but I'd love to look at the actual cards, I'm almost certain that every judge would have scored it 10-8.

well to his credit he wasnt comfortably matched. Vazquez is a seasoned veteran and you could say hes kinda like Augustus. Hes taken fights on short notice and done well. He gave Demetrius Hopkins his tuffest fight before Forbes and it was on short notice.
The last time i spoke to him he told me he was just training and waiting for a good fight. He had upset Ricardo Torres' brother and there was talk about a rematch but they wanted to pay him the same he got when he steped up the first time as a victim for Torres' coming out party eventho he beat him. I remember i told him to keep his guard up cuz they would probably try to catch him sleeping, i just hope he got paid decent money for this one and that it brings him some decent fights as a result.
Hatton's people took a hughe risk matching him against Vazquez.
