Wow, you rubbish McGuigan and endorse Bunce then say that I am full of shit! What has being close to the action got to do with it, unless you mean being over excitable and OTT with the commentary, which is exactly what he and Duke were corrected for. BTW Rawling was good.Autobarn wrote:man, you are full o' shit. Even NADY was concerned. It's a case of the guys away from the action trying to play god.SticknMove wrote:Autobarn wrote:Please get rid of seedy old man Hart, disagreeable miser McGiggle and never let Malone back on. Obviously the main thing was to have tension between the guys. Colin 'Lennox is Gay' Hart sitting next to Maloney who promoted Lennox. All 3 of 'em dissecting the commentary crew of Bunce, Duke and Rawling.
Maloney was WAY out of line. He will never get a studio job on Setanta again. Saying that Bunce should retire from commentating. Dempsey's apropriate, telling him "that's out of order."
Too many egos. Especially in the studio. They're trying to lord it up and look superior to the comm team. If they are right that Echols was okay to carry on all the way through, then why the eff was Nady, the ref, telling Echols to buckle down or he'll stop it? Sorry Bazza, Colin and Maloney, you're full of it. Echols' kegs were gone, his could barely defend himself, and it was only Zuniga's ineptness/wear and tear that kept Echols in it.
Bunce showed up McG. Saying I won't criticise Matthew Hatton's opponent in case they pull his record up while they're sitting there drinking tea!
btw what a howler - Barry quoting Zuniga's record to say Zuniga is a puncher. What a prick.
So you endorse Bunce as a member of the commentary team then do you? I think that McGuigan was spot on in correcting the fat chancer. And Maloney's comment was apt. He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near serious boxing commentary in running IMO. Let him write about it and/or cheerlead it, because that's all he is fit for IMO of course.

to all their credit they pulled their socks up, stopped bickering and ended up doing a quality job. but it was a horrid start. to begin i do feel they made a real negative vibe, and this is something you DON'T want to to do. a very shaky start but things improved. i don't mind the conflict and the tension, just don't let it take over from doing the job properly.
On the Echols issue, Antwun looked like he couldn't defend himself properly, looked like he couldn't even stand up.

I went to bed for a couple of hours at 12 and must have missed all that crap!!! What exactly happened? I don't like the way Barry always has to talk over somebody. It's rude. To be fair it's only Hart and Maloney but still.... Dempsey is a class act though and sky have missed him.
Duke "ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh every time a clean shot lands" was a little out of his depth as per the norm. Does he not realise you don't have to talk for every second on air? Silence can be bliss.

Thought the commentary team did well. Duke gets proper involved, excited etc. That shows he still has passion for boxing, which is great.
It was nice to see Frank Maloney looking very well in the studio with the other guys. Frank seems a geuine nice guy & I'm glad we got to see him.
Frank always seems to emphasise certain things when they are good for boxing, particularly brithish boxing, which is good.

I actually thought Bunce was pretty good, I prefer him doing commentary actually. I think he does need to have people restrain him at times, as he has a tendency to become quite colourful and verbose at times, but I thought he introduced a good element to the proceedings.
I thought overall that Setanta had a good production package, they might have been negative about the Echols fight, but at least they were being honest. Echols looked shot to shit in there and no mistake.

What is talking over the sound of Hatton's corner all about? He seemed to be paraphrasing audible speech, but with the pomposity of a translator. Highly irritating. Should have cut his mic off then, like they did later on when he wouldn't let Duke get a word in.livingstone cole wrote:And Steve Bunce just needs a kicking. Over dramatic nonsense.

I thought over all the presentation was good and the presenters & commentators were ok. Even Duke was better than usual. Inspired by a big event no doubt.
Find Bunce irritating at times - less from him and he'd be ok. Agree, the off button in his mike needs to be controlled more by someone else.
Good though and hopefully Setanta stick with it. Noticed they "extended" the sign up offer a few hours, which makes you wonder if the figures were not so great.

To be fair to Bunce, I am sure that was his role. It was to only speak in between rounds, John would always ask Bunce for his views in between rounds. Although, yes Bunce should have said "well lets just see what Billy has to say".jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yeah, I thought that was a bit unneccesary, I think Bunce will improve over time, given a bit less leeway to freewheel. I thought that the three of them had a nice balance, just need to tighten Buncey's leash a bit. He's just a bloke who talks a lot, rather like myself.
I'm sorry but he is just too "my way or the highway" to ever be a good commentator. All this "lets get is straight" and "trust me" and then puts up his OPINION. His scoring of the Matthew's fight was way off for me and him saying that no judge will score Round 11 a 10-8 round is plain wrong and a man of his experience will should know that 10-8 rounds a frequently given for even the most flash of KD's in the USA. If Jim Watt would have scored it a 10-9, he would have explained that maybe he card will differ to the judges with that one and explain why. Not in patronising way either, but in a PROFFESIONAL way.
As for him saying "we want to see Hatton have a nasty cut" and then some people have slagged off Maloney/Hart and Barry for not being proffesional.
Get Barry out with John next time (if Jim is contracted to Sky), get Piper, Spencer Oliver and Maloney in the studio and leave it to them. I think the production did show that less is more.
If they want another Journo in, then replace Bunce with Kevin Garside - who I have thought does a much more proffesional job than Bunce.

McGuigan was horrible. He was sitting there with a sneer on his face, picking at anything the commentators had said. Unnecessary because in doing that, he tried to make out that Echols was never in any danger (he was), that Fully Zuniga is a puncher (he isn't particularly). Looked like he was arguing for the sake of it.shakermaker wrote:I went to bed for a couple of hours at 12 and must have missed all that crap!!! What exactly happened? It seems it was the anniversary of his fight with Steve Cruz. He did seem in a foul mood.
Hilariously, on the Setanta build up, it showed Hatton rubbishing a Daily Mirror article written by Barry. The article was critical of Hatton and said he should be aiming for the very top - Junior Witter! There was a lot of tension going on but here it was amusing.
