this hatton bashing crap
this hatton bashing crap
some boxing fans who use this site just aint real....go to the current scene part of this site and its "lets slag hatton"
why???
it didnt matter to them that he destroyed...yes destroyed a top fighter in castillo...but what the hell do they want????
i thought like many that hatton would win but it would be a struggle before youth took its toll....if you read my "unbiased post" you will see i thought hatton would win in 11 rounds because he has faster hands and feet but also the bigger punch
may i add that not many agreed with me when i said hatton should brawl with castillo....the way i saw it was hatton has the phyical advantages , he didnt have the miles on the clock so by brawling he would be able to beat more effectively rather than the in and out boxing that only works against one-dimensional fighter like tackie and urango.
hatton is the undoubted star at 140 and i think he should fight maywather at 147....but.....if i was hatton i would come in to this fight or any fight againt a 147 guy nearer to 140 rather than 147.
why???....he is dynamite at this weight , he is sharp , fast powerful , basically at his best...why put extra bulk on that will slow him down???
mayweather is 5,6 and bulked up but hatton is the stronger fighter here...also againt cotto i would come in near to 140 as possible , the cotto fight is the one between to young great fighters , the winner of this becomes the legend as both are in thier prime.
hatton is a major star...whether the american fans want to acknowledge this or not is thier problem.
i personally think that the americans are just pissed just now as most of the major stars in boxing now are non-american

I said there would be a backlash. Let's not forget the dramatic U-turn when Calzaghe tortured Lacy. Or the abuse that Lewis got for scaring off Tyson, Evander and Bowe - all of whom avoided him.
Right now there are the regulars who DON'T WANT him to do well, and get all sweaty when technically flawless but boring and unappealing Mayweather is threatened.
Ricky will get less abuse than the above because he has some personality and can be exciting. I doubt Mayweather wants to fight him because he won't want anyone to try and rough him up and anyways, he has that attitude that sucks i.e. I won't fight anyone for less than Oscar money.
Ricky has been on record saying how boring Mayweather is, so the Mayweather lovers wil be hitting out. These ppl also detest Cotto and Margarito, LOL.

That Hatton punch was a thing of near greatness. He threw the shot like 3 or 4 times and Castillo showed what an astute fighter he is by tucking his elbow in and blocking it. So Hatton did a subtle variation - he threw the left hook a bit high, drawing Castillo's elbow away, and then sank the 2nd one in.
That was a flash of inspiration. Wonderful performance by Hatton. He's a genuine top 6 pound for pounder.

to be fair, it is usually only the "keyboard warriors" who really have this issue.
If you find the link to round four ( posted on a thread somewhere) you will hear the US commentators giving RH all the props he deserves and reminding people of just exactly who he was up against.
The ones who say that JC was "shot" etc etc are the same ones who said how he was going to be too strong for RH and how Rh would get found out.
In the end, I will put my trust in the people who say that, that body shot was one of only two they have ever seen that could end a fight like that. The other being Jones/Hill.
That's not bad company to be in

Thouble is, the HBO commentators didn't. I've managed to watch the full HBO show now and they say that Hatton "will get no credit" for his win because it was against a shot Castillo who "quit".Slapsie Maxie wrote:to be fair, it is usually only the "keyboard warriors" who really have this issue.

Have to say, a boxing afficianado from across the pond who is a contact of mine, says that Hatton is getting little credit from the yabnks on the whole, he personally doesn't agree, but he says everyone is now saying Castillo is shot.
I do think that Castillo was past his best, and especially having to move up to 140, but the fact is, nobody has ever stopped Castillo with such ease before, and the delivery of the shot which did it was incredible.
I gave Castillo the 3rd round, but even that one was very close, and Hatton came out in the 4th like he meant business. He was dictating the fight
Did anyone else think Castillo looked very nervous during his ring walk? I was surprised at how tense he looked.

I think there is a real fragility in the American psyche. There is a paranoia against foreigners and a massive defensiveness. It's clear that boxing is not centralised in America. And if it is, they rely to an extent on fighters from abroad. It;s global, multinational sport. It's about time ppl accepted that. The imported talent that get credit are mainly guys like Cotto and Pac who show that they're making an effort to be true blue by learning English.
Well I say eff the current scene as well because there are ppl on there who go to serious lengths to defend bums like Jermain Taylor who have no clue how to overwhelm older class acts.
I also gave Castillo the 3rd. He was timing Hatton coming in. He was showing a very smart defense and he was slowly building a rhythm that normally picks up in the 5th and 6th rounds.
if we give Cotto OTT credit for beating Zab - a guy who never made it to elite level and stung Cotto with 3 all out assaults over ELEVEN rounds, we ive Hatton credit for beating a guy who's been at the highest level with one of the year's best shots.

I'm on record as being a big Hatton critic but he looked sensational on Saturday. However how good was Castillo?
Fair criticisms of Castillo not being the best win in the world:
1. Unproven at 140 despite been a big 135lber
2. Arguably lost his last fight against Ndoujdo who put in a poor performance against journeyman Bailey next time out.
3. Very Innacitive, very battleworn after having 17 years worth of wars and 33yo
4. Went life and death with Corrales before been destroyed in a fight were each man left a part of themselves in the ring. Would either be the same fighter ever again?
5. 2 years since he last beat a ranked fighter and he needed to cheat the scales to beat him
6. He could have got up and didn't - yes he might have got ko'd and may have been unable to survive anyway. Castillo had just fined a point for a fair bodyshot and had already lost 3 rounds, did he just think he wasn't going to win and give up when he looked up against it?
7. Castillo was told days before the fight he wouldn't get his purse, must take away some hunger from putting it all on the line
Despite all of this Ricky Hatton could hardly have put on a better performance and Castillo was doing some good work and making the rounds fairly close and even winning 1 of them.
If Castillo goes on to have a good run of form then no one can call him shot but personally I think hes come to the end of the road and he'll be a downward spiral.
I now as a Witter fan favour Hatton over Witter if they squared off BUT I go back on forth on this as Witter still may have the style to take Hatton

Another thing, I hate this shit where Americans (principally) are always accusing ppl of quitting. If someone is not laid flat out, shivering on the floor, they have quit. I know boxing is a spectacle, but it doesn't have to end with one guy being knocked through the floor or over the top rope.
If you're winded that badly, you can't do anything. Castillo has a poker face. Doesn't ever show any pain. Doesn't mean he wasn't hurting. He's been in a lot of wars and his face has always been blank when he fights.

Indeed. Although a lot of the points might have merit, point 6 is a bit insulting to be honest and pure conjecture.Autobarn wrote:Another thing, I hate this shit where Americans (principally) are always accusing ppl of quitting. I give Hatton more credit than Cotto BUT I rate Judah over Castillo at these stages of there careers.Autobarn wrote: if we give Cotto OTT credit for beating Zab - a guy who never made it to elite level and stung Cotto with 3 all out assaults over ELEVEN rounds, we ive Hatton credit for beating a guy who's been at the highest level with one of the year's best shots.
Judah is elite, none elite fighters don't beat Spinks, Witter, Bergman, and take 5 rounds off Mayweather

Anyone who calls Castillo a 'quitter' doesnt know what they are talking about.
He never saw the vicious liver shot that did for him and the slight delay in his reaction to the shot was perfectly normal.
The punch was perfectly placed and completetly debilitating.
Rather then calling Castillo 'shot' and 'a quitter', people should be praising one of the great performances abroad by a British fighter.
Hatton was awesome and has now proved he can sell masses of tickets on both sides of the ocean. 13,044 is an impressive live gate even in Vegas.
All hail the Manchester Hitman!

you're not exactly looking for the positives are you? For instance Castillo did not get "arguably beaten" by Herman. It was close but clear for JLC.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:I'm on record as being a big Hatton critic but he looked sensational on Saturday. However how good was Castillo?

For me this is just like Pac-Morales 2. Pac, hitting peak form, overwhelming the older man. Morales coming off some shaky form but still being given a chance beforehand...Castillo is much craftier and more skilled (in a subtle way) than Morales...In both cases the energetic younger guy overwhelmed the older ones.

I am not being negative. The fact is, Castillo had never fought, let alone beat, an elite level 140 lber, which is why I predicted that Hatton would have a much easier time with Castillo than everyone was predicting.jeej wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:Have to say, a boxing afficianado from across the pond who is a contact of mine, says that Hatton is getting little credit from the yabnks on the whole, he personally doesn't agree, but he says everyone is now saying Castillo is shot.

Did anyone else think Castillo looked very nervous during his ring walk? I was surprised at how tense he looked.Yeah, cos Castillo really struggled to move up in weight against Corrales the second time. I don't really think you can call having to fight at the weight of a whole one hundred and fourty pounds as being a negative for Castillo, he's actually fought at 150lbs before. Although it was plain to see Hatton bullied him around the ring for 4 rounds, I think that was more to do with Hatton's dominance at the weight rather than Castillo's weakness at the weight.
Hatton was far too strong for Castillo at 140, there's a big differece between natural weight, and being over the weight. Castillo had never fought a career 140 lber at top level.
Castillo did actually say himself something along the lines of 'If I had got up, things would have been bad for me' indicating perhaps, that he could have gotten up, but realised that had he tried he was just going to get annihilated. Fair enough, Hatton hurt him badly enough to make him stay down.
Hatton can only beat in front of him, and it was an excellent performance, no doubt about it, he dominated Castillo, but it's not sacriledge to suggest that perhaps Castillo was a bit shopworn.

He's still a hall of famer and all this talk of Witter gets me down....
Hatton would walk through him, despite his style...
He's pedestrian and never performed against anyone of Ricky's calibre.....
He showed against N'dou that in the last 4-5 rounds he tires.....and the pace was hardly electric in that fight, even if he did have him down..
Is he even fighting Harris?

Sure but Castillo has those veteran skills. Ricky deserves credit for ripping into the veteran. No one has tore into elite veterans this way since 2005 - when Ricky took down Tszyu (who, to defend that fight, was bloody champion) and when Hasegawa had a slugfest with Sahaprom (and chillingly KO'd him in a rematch).
I hope this is a sign. That the time is up on the older fighters and the young guys should be given the big fights/big stages.

Castillo was obviously in pain to go down, but he was on 1 knee and if your strong enough to be on 1 knee it isn't too much of a strethch to make it to 2 feet. He wasn't lying down in complete agony.
Just because Castillo was too big for 135 does not make him an elite 140lber. Corrales (RIP), was too big for 135lbs and we all saw how a none elite Clottey dominated him.
I think Pac-Morales 2 is a good comparison BUT Castillo wasn't proven at 140 like Morales was and was never quite the same level operator for me.
All in all I think Castillo came to fight but deep down inside he neither had the the ability to go through another hellburner like Corrales-Castillo or had the same physical ability of a few years previous.
