Another ex-postie here. I got sacked in 1978 because I asked for time off to go on a mini cruise to Esberg and they refused but I went anyway.
Monday morning they were waiting at the gate and sacked me on the spot. With a crowd watching I handed over my pouch, hat, bike and shabbed mail. (Shabbed mail is stuff you can't be bothered to deliver because the front garden is too long or the house is isolated or there's a snarling dog. You wait until you have a handful for them and provide about 3 deliveries a week)
Anyway, the little crowd were tutting as I turned away to make the long walk home in the crisp early morning air of Hemel Hempstead when a PHG (Postman Higher Grade) called Tom approached, he was the father of an ex-girlfriend and he gave me the reference to get the job, "You've let me down" he said.
Ohhh I feel uncomfortable remembering it.

If they strike, sack em.
There are plenty of others who can fill their shoes.
All these public workers expect too much.
What contribution do they make.
My brother in law is a postman and he is a lazy cnunt. Starts at 6am, home by 10am. He calls that a full day. And those hours incude breakfast halfway through his round at his mums.

They deliver and process mail. Thought that was pretty obviousKO Artist wrote:What contribution do they make.

Don't judge us all by one fella's actions. There are plenty of postmen on walks that work a full day, delivering to the some of the worst housing estates/areas in Britain, all the while being constantly harassed by smackhead and gangs of youths. They're also out come rain or shine for hours on end.
Kiss my arse you dirty scab!KO Artist wrote:Sack the bastards

The postal service is one of the few bargains left in this country. Sending a letter across the world for 32p isn't exactly ripping the public off. Alcohol, ciggies, nearly everything you can name has sky-rocketed in line with inflation.Autobarn wrote:yeah, postal service is shite. i always get parcels late. always. it's like there's a guy in a van who does the parcels and only comes round these parts once every week. what are we paying extra for? nothing.
The service you get reflects your local district office service, not the business as a whole. Once a week is ridiculous, you should complain. I know in my building, everything runs on dispatch times. 99% of the time the mail is cleared on time. I read about RM losing millions of items per year and how it's now a poor service, it just doesn't reflect where I work.
Anyway back us up, I need to start saving for the Hatton-Mayweather PPV.
Bingo!Old bones Ian wrote:Support the Posties, you think you'd get a cheaper service if it went private?
In the coming years, watch companies like TNT and UKmail start hiking up there prices because of lack of business. Also, watch them start fcuking everything up. Royal Mail have been doing this for a long time, and still have problems.
Another little fact for you. Check your mail in the morning, and you'll notice in the top right hand corner there is a logo, be it for Tnt, or any number of new mail companies. Who do you think sorts and delivers all of their mail for them?
