The suns coverage of the Hatton fight and the over exposure again of
our semi talented overpaid footballers who were at ringside got on my tits.

As boxing fans we are on the constant defensive about our sport, now Hatton has achieved some kind of worldwide acceptance as a present great. All kinds of tossers who couldn't name you the british light welterweigt champion are now crawling out of the woodwork to get in on the act as boxng fans. Rio Ferdinand? Robbie Williams? When do you think you saw Robbie 'me me me the world is about me' Williams last time at a show?

Rio, if now as a boxing fan you are reading this. Hopefully you and your England football mates can take a leaf out of Ricky Hattons book
and provide value for money for the thousands of fans who spend their hard earned money followng you to tournaments all round the globe then it would have been worth seeing yuor ugly mug in the papers!

I don't know about anyone here but are we all sick of seeing Wayne Rooney and him and his familiy's tenunous link with the boxing world. My old man, me and my brother boxed as amateur well as having a cousin who was a former spanish middleweight champion and a distant relative
of Arturo Godoy but I wouldn't have the audacity of saying we were a 'boxing family' were not. And neither are the Rooney's, no more than any other family in Merseyside, so it should stop being reported as such they are hardly the Forans of Liverpool or the Spinks of St Louis are they?

I remember Sven saying about Wayne Rooney and his aggresion 'he comes from a family of boxers, he could have been a boxer' Well stick to talking about something you know about Sven and keep your opinions and Wayne Rooney out of my sport.

Well I was annoyed at the real lack of coverage in general of the fight in the news and in the press. Sunday's news on commercial radio didn't mention it at all - all I heard was Henry was possibly taking his last dump in London.

I don't even recall Sky Sports News mentioning it, although perhaps I'm wrong there.

It is in todays papers Stu, 50/50 Rooney and Hatton which is a bit outrageous as it was Hatton doing all the fighting.

Well its part and parcel of how boxing fans are treated in this country... I mean how many of us actually shelled out to watch it live??.... we're always hearing about how humble Hatton is yet he doesnt seem bothered that the fans have to shell out their hard earned just to have the privilage of seeing him fight.... call me a cynic but I'm rather bored by the whole thing already, Castillo was as shot as a New Orleans whore and that should have been plainly obvious to anyone who saw his last fight!!.... now the talk is on Delahoya and Mayweather but if he comes through his next fight I can see Gatti looming on Rickys Horizon!...

Its still not a bad fight IMO. I do think we a writing Gatti off by being outclassed by Mayweather and being ultimately (despite a valiant effort in which he showed he had the beatings of him IMO) outstrengthed by a huge 147 lbs in Baldomir.

Hatton's never will be a Mayweather in terms of skill or a Baldomir in terms of strength. The one thing that was picked up by Billy Graham, but not be any so far on the forum that was a massive difference between Hatton and Castillo - was Hatton's superior hand speed. I give the edge in hand speed to Gatti over Ricky.

I think it will be 50:50 in terms of strength and Gatti has the edge in speed. Its style that make fights and I don't think Gatti has really shown, even in his last 3 fights, that he is any lesser of a fighter who was beating up the likes of Leonard Dorrin or Jesse James Leija.

No Gattis had too many wars and his resistance is gone... Ricky would probably overwhelm him in around 5 rounds... if Rickys wants decent fights that will prove him a great then he should be fighting the likes of Witter, Margarito, Cotto or Clottey... beating Gatti at this point wont prove anything... it amazes me as well that Hatton still hasnt proved himself the best 140 fighter in England, let alone the world... why wont he fight Witter??.... he's got a better title than him for a start!.... the ibo title is a joke....

Oh no, of course there a better fights for Ricky- but its a decent "test the waters" at 147 fight... as would Judah still be. What Gatti could still is a decent(ish) guage for Team Hatton to see if they really should pursue a fight with DLH.

Whilst Gatti is a very poor man's version of DLH. He is possibly out of the all of the contenders most similar to DLH in terms of style. Fast hands (thats Cotto out of it), likes to throw combinations (thats Mayweather, Judah and Witter out of it), comfortable on both front and back foot (thats Margarito out of it), decent dig (thats Malignaggi out of it).

how can you say he's got a better belt? Witter won a VACANT WBC title against Corley who was barely a top 10 force at the weight. Hatton beat Tszyu for the lineal title which counts much more. Fighter makes the title in this case. Witter can't even get HIS OWN mandatory to face him.

Gatti is going to get murdered by Chavez Jr. If he even gets to that fight.

Also Gatti/Judah are not testing the waters at 147 because neither are true welterweights, Witter at 140 is as big as either Judah/Gatti at 147.

People avoid Witter because he's good... simple as that!. If Hatton had a real fighters pride then he'd want to fight Witter just to prove a point. Truth is the IBO title is worthless and Hattons win over Castillo hardly put him amongst the greats like some are saying... As far as 140lbs, if Hatton stays there he should look at who the top contenders are, and they should be rated as

Champ Hatton
1. Witter
2. Harris
3. M'baiye
4. Magillagi
5. Kotelnik
6. Torres
7. Holt
8. Urango
9. Castillo
10. Lazcano

Pretty thin and Magillagi can't break an egg. Witters the number 1 contender, it should happen.

Can't blame them to be honest, everyone wants to watch the best regardless of what sport it is. Obviously we watch lower level fights, because we all like boxing a lot. However, you wouldn't catch me sitting back and watching loads of football matches outside the top division. I get bored watching the top teams sometimes, so I'm definitely not about to start watching Scunthorpe and Doncaster.

Must be the same for these celebrities. They are not die hard fans and so you are not gonna catch them a small hall fight card.

Exactumundo..... I don't want to knock Witter but more his fans. What has Witter done, people are laughing at my suggestion that Gatti vs Hatton would be a decent(ish) fight.... Well it will be a cracking fight, but laughing at my suggestion that it could be competitive.

The same people are saying that Witter is a strong 140 and better than Gatti.... based on what? Close fights with Ndou and Kotelnik - neither of whom have proven where they lie in the top ten? A struggle with Colin Lynes?

Lets see Witter fight someone as proven as a Gatti before making judgements.... at least he is proven. Witter is proven to a degree, but struggles with Kotelnik and Ndou doesn't prove he is better than even this faded Gatti. Kotelnik and Ndou are as bout as proven as Thomas Dammgaard.

Oh yeah, Kotlenik has ran Mbaye close twice (draw and split decision loss)... but then what as Mbaye trully done himself. I would favour Colin Lynes over Carlos Maussa, does that mean that Lynes is proven as world class - nope.

most ppl think Ricky will sign with GBP in which case he's on one side of the GBP-Arum feud! It would be easier for Arum to match Cotto-Margarito in a unifier.
