Oscar Bonevena vs. Tommy Morrison

Post by bobbyd »

I think bonevena would stop em in 10.they'd both go down a couple times each before morrison would run outta steam and get clobbered with a 10 punch unanswered combo while leaning on the ropes for dear life.A thrilling brawl it'd be though! :D

Morrison would only have a little puncher´s chance, IMO Bonavena would wear him down within 6 rounds...

Morrison just simply did not have the chin to last very long with heavyweights of Bonavena's quality...a quick and rather easy knockout by Bonavena...that is unless Morrison landed that wrecking ball of a left hook!

Considering the fact that Ringo went 25 rounds with Frazier, I don’t think he would have any trouble withstanding Morrison’s left hook. Bonavena by KO inside of 2 rounds.

But Oscar was knocked down twice by Ellis , Three times by Ali, Once by Folley and possibly more times. His chin was certainly not concrete.

I agree it wasn’t concrete. However, while he didn’t have a Chuvalo chin, the Foley fight was his NINTH pro fight against a world class HW with nearly 80 pro fights; I seem to recall that the Ellis KD’s were legit, but he wasn’t really hurt that badly and the Ali KD’s were after 15 grueling rounds with a pretty good fighter. His chin wasn’t concrete, but there’s nothing to be ashamed of in any of those KD’s, plus the fact that he fought a pretty decent resume, including 25 rounds with Frazier, and Ali was the only one who stopped him.

Certainly nothing against Bonavena, I loved the guy. I just think that if a 225 lbs Morrison hit Oscar with shots like the ones that felled Razor Ruddock, Bonavena would go.
On the other hand Bonavena fought Joe Frazier for 25 rounds, nearly beating him in the first fight, so who knows?

I think Tommy has speed and power over the brutish and flat footed Bonavena. Tommy has a soft chin sure, but at the same time he also has a good reach advantage and nice powerful combo punches.

Oscar is a tough, gritty mauler who would hit you hard and exploit any weakness.

I think that Tommy would win a good decision perhaps similiar to how he did against a still dangerous though over the hill Foreman.

Bonavena resistance

Post by Cojimar 1945 »

Morrison coulden't stop Foreman who came from the same era as Bonavena. Moreover, Foreman claimed that Lyle hit harder than Morrison and Bonavena was able to take Lyle's punches. I certainly think it is concievable that Lyle was a bigger puncher than Morrison.

Morrison dint go after Foreman, he out boxed him.

Morrion could probably out box Bonavena much the same way, however I can only imagine both men trading in an exciting fight.

Morrion has the better speed, combinations and power.

Bonavena has the much better chin, composure and counter punching skills.

If Morrison slugs it will most likely be like the first Frazier-Bonavena fight. Or a KO win for Bonavena.

If Morrison is smart, cautious and 'zippy' like I said above it will be decision win for Morrison.
