Question on Ratings
How does Box Rec come up with it ratings? I know you use a computer ranking system, but what type of program are you using and what are the criteria for the points system?
Ok, I think this is how it goes: The rating system is based on an equation used by Mike Paul (who I think still runs an all-time heavyweight ratings page). Basically, I think John tinkered around with it and eventually found something he liked. The equation and what gets factored into it is ... unknown.
One difference between Mike Paul's system and John's is that Mike's system will punish you for inactivity (over a year I think.) I think Mike's system awards more points, because I've noticed his point totals are significantly larger than John's. The premise is pretty much the same though, as far as the awarding of points, deducting, etc.
record queries
I started a new chain on this subject and then found this one. Excuse me for that. How is it that James Toney is rated higher, in the heavyweight division than many other heavyweights?? Does one fight at that weight qualify him for such a high rank? Is a win over Hollyfield regarded more highly than a lower ranked opponent? Should Hollyfield have been dropped 9 places after one loss? Am I asking too many questions for one post? Will you get tired of me if I continue?
