My Top 10 hardest MW pucnhers ever

Post by Luigi1985 »

1: Stanley Ketchel
2: Bob Fitzsimmons
3: Gerald McClellan
4: Marvin Hagler
5: George Chip
6: Billy Papke
7: Bennie Briscoe
8: Julian Jackson
9: Juan Domingo Roldan
10: Nigel Benn

PS: I only rate fighters who made a lot of fights at 160 lbs., so for example I don´t rate Hearns or so...

What´s your list?

I think Nigel Benn hit harder then Hagler, also Archie Moore fought a lot at middleweight not sure if your including him due to him mainly being a leight-heavyweight but if you are maybe he should be number 1. Otherwise it's a godd list.

Here's a preliminary list:

1. Sam Langford
2. Charley Burley
3. Julian Jackson
4. Bob Fitzsimmons
5. Gerald McClellan
6. Archie Moore
7. Stanley Ketchell
8. Marvin Hagler
9. Carlos Monzon
10. Lloyd Marshall

I'm taking my son to Legoland in 15 minutes or so, and I'll be back later.

I didn´t rate Moore and Langford as MW´s, otherwise they would be in my list, too. Burley, one of my favourite fighters, such a great and underrated fighter, but he can´t be ahead of Ketchel IMO...

As a MW, Benn KO´ed almost all of his opponents, but also against mediocre opposition, Hagler on the other side KO´d world class opponents, that´s the difference. Name your list, it would be interesting...

He lives comfortably in his native Cartagena, Colombia.
There was a magazine piece some years ago where they got him together with Kid Pambele and contrasted how they were doing right now. The now toothless Cervantes drank and snorted every single penny he'd earned whereas Rocky had set up a small catering business and was doing well for himself and his loved ones.

Please guys, don´t come with Mugabi, sure, he had power, but not so much that he could make it in a list with the hardest punchers ever, before he fought Hagler he beat almost only bums, against better competiion we saw what happened... IMO Mugabi is even p4p one of the most overrated punchers ever...

Yet you saw fit to put Juan Roldan in your list.

The most powerful Middleweights of Argentina were

Rafael Merentino (near of 80% of all bouts win by K.O.), 47 WKO in 60 total fights

Eduardo Lausse (more than 70% of all his bouts), 62 WKO in 87 fights

Lausse knocked down and win over Gener Fullmer, and Merentino had twice groggy Kid Gavilan

I might give Randy Turpin some serious consideration if I decide to make a top 10 list.

Marvin Hagler.

I love it.

Hagler had to struggle to win a 15 round decision over fat, overweight, out of shape, old 135-pounder Roberto Duran.

..i am always pleased when guys put sugar ray robinson on this list...and puzzled when he is left off. one of the hardest hitting middleweights ever, even when he was still welter champion and engaging in over-the-weight fights.

Tony Mundine would have to be up there with 80 odd KOs from 100 wins.

Mugabi was a very good fighter and a puncher on par with someone like McClelan - watch his fights with Curtis Parker and Fletcher.. both good contenders and he knocks them both clean out of the ring. His knockout of Hargrove was also impressive. But it was the Hagler fight that ruined Mugabi but not before making it clear that this was no easy fight, Mugabi gave Hagler one of his toughest fights of his career.
