hatton vs witter

Post by 1southpaw »

diddn,t see the hatton fight but see the picture,s in the papers and noticed that hatton won the IBO WORLD TITLE and WBC INTER TITLE it got me thinking ??????

1ST i diddn,t think you could hold any other titles apart from world tltles at one time

2ND if you win a inter title dosen,t that put you in the top ten to box for that title in hatton,s case the WBC ??????

3RD hatton wants a home comming fight

if this is all correct the evedance tells me that hatton should be ranked by the WBC and would be able to fight witter for the WBC TITLE what do tou think????????

sorry if im wrong :D

Everyone is saying he has to fight Witter!

Ok Junior has a belt but he is not the only one and belts get given away if they need to(Hatton/Castillo/IBO/WBC Inter)

Yeah Junior is British so we want to see them fight, but it is US money driving this and US /Worldwide bums on seats that count.

Junior has hardly forced himself into the reckoning, he has a belt and he is English

He can't sell out a show in England, yes it would sell out if he was fighting Hatton but thats because it is Hatton! He struggles to get TV otherwise.

If hatton fights the PBF, Cotto, DLH, Mosely, even Judah or Malanaggi no one can accuse him of ducking Witter cause he has bigger and better fish to fry.

This is a business and Witter does not generate enough money, esp when it is HBO pulling the purse strings.

Witter needs Hatton, Hatton don't need Witter at all

I think to be honest Coco, Hatton has about 3 fights left in him before he retires which will be Cotto, PBF and probably De la Hoya. I totally agree that Witter is not even on the peripheral of any future Hatton fight. Witter serves little purpose to the Hatton camp. Hatton is coming to the end of a career where for the past 7 years and 26 fights he has had to train and make weight for 12 rounders and his body as well as his mental state must be close to being on the slide.

Witter doesn't have exposure, and his skills are too subtle for the US audience, the one that Hatton now caters to.

I do like watching Witter, he wouldn't beat Hatton but he would make him look daft or ordinary... take your pick and as it is a fight no-one bar a few of the british boxing insiders are clamourng for, it won't be made.

Hatton is a stickler for how he will be revered by boxing fans in the future and good on him but he knows his legacy will not even be dented by not fighting Witter. Witter is not on the horizon... WBC belt or no WBC belt.

Are you nuts
Witter is a Goldenboy/Hennessy fighter
They can get that passed by HBO anytime Hatton would step up
Hatton is running away from that fight
A mega fight takes two to make the fight
This would be the biggest domestic gate in a long time
I would say 40 000 + would be a realistic number
Just with that gate it could cover everything and then some
What do you think HBO wont want to be a part of that??
It has all the elements Bad Blood/ Two champions / Mega $$$$$

Hatton is ducking Witter

Hatton is coming towards the end of his career. There are bigger targets on the radar and they don't include Witter.

The fight would be a domestic megafight, wouldn't be anywhere else though. Do you think the Americans would care? Not on your nelly, first of all, the last three fights Hatton has had have been stateside and they seem to love the fans who come and give the fight its aptmosphere (sp! ) don't bank on Hatton ever fighting in England again.

It's not about HBO wanting it. it is about Hatton only having so many peak perfomances and then retiring, if he gets PBF or Cotto in his next fight don't be suprised with a post fight retirement speech at the press conference. 8)

Hatton is ducking Witter
Hatton hasn't signed for Golden Boy yet.

How is Hatton ducking Witter, that is like saying Haye is ducking Macca to fight Mormack .

There are bigger fish to fry, yes they would have a big gate, but there will be a big gate who ever he fights.

The TV audience is far more important, and while this would be a big fight in Britain, it would not be anywhere else.

Even so Hatton is the attraction, it would not be equal billing like Benn, Eubank, Watson, it would be more like Hamed v Ingle.

If he isn't gonna take a big name, he should take Malanaggi, who did a better job on Ndou than Witter, is also a champ, hugely popular in the States, est HBO fighter, this would generate far more money and would sell out the MGM.

I would like to see them fight, but let's get things into perspective here.

Right now,Ricky Hatton could fight Witter in England, and it would attract maybe 40,000 fans.

Then again,Ricky Hatton could fight a tramp in England, brought in straight off the streets of London, and it would attract maybe 40,000 fans.

The potential gate for this fight,in England, won't increase any more than it would for a Hatton fight against ANY fighter in England.

What is the point Hatton fighting Witter? It would be strictly a lose, lose situation for him!!

As stated above no matter who Hatton fights in England next time it will guarantee a massive attendence and if he fights Malanaggi it will also get the American audience involved as well.

For too long Warren didn't match him with the big fights (rightly or wrongly) and Hatton knows that now is the time to take the big fights and make some serious money before his career comes to an end.

Plus, he seems to really have a hatred for Witter and doesn't want Witter to make a penny off him!

Witter's not an option for me, Malanaggi at Wembley/City of Manchester then PBF or Cotto at Madison Square Garden! :TU:

if Hatton signed for GBP, that would make a de la hoya fight less likely. why try and KO a fighter you can make lots of money off. it's getting a bit boring all of this 'Hatton must fight..." talk.

Us money have been put Into lesser fighters than Witter though like when Floyd fought crap like Henry Bruseles, so they might well accept Witter.

Why should Hatton go back for his old belt against Paulie?

Because when you are fighting at this level it is not about belts it is about the fights.

And just because HBO have accepted crap fights before is no reason to do it again.

Hatton has not got 5 or 6 years left, he dos not need warm up/ tune ups or marking time fights

Hatton has ducked Witter for a nigh on a decade, he's had more than ample opportunity to take the fight, but has chose to fight everybody but.

Hatton ducking Witter should seriously effect Hattons legacy this side of the pond, it has to if hes avoided his arch-rival for so long, but I agree that the yanks aren't bothered in watching an all-British grudge match. It all depends on who Hatton is trying to impress the British or the Yank fans? the answer is that obvious its virtually a rhetorical question.

If Hatton is intending on coming back to this country for his next fight as he says he is, then there is no excuse for him not fighting Witter (providing Witter beats Harris), but in saying that he has had no excuse for years and it hasn't stopped him

I'll remember Hatton as much for ducking Witter as I will for him beating Tszyu and Castillo. Its a MASSIVE blot on an excellent career

If you beat Tszyu, Witter means eff all. Junior's not even beaten his mandatory yet, so let's wait and see.
HBO seem, like Russ Abbot, to like a party with an atmosphere and Paulie will bring this as long as they get him and Hatton at the Garden.

Lots of fans involvement and they can make the fight easily. With Witter there is the risk he loses perspective and asks for a 50-50 split.
I like the idea of this fight. But: Paulie has just started calling out Joel Casamayor, a fight that the Cuban will jump to.

Not sure if Hatton should renew with HBO just yet. Ppl are saying that there is no slot for a Hatton fight till next year. Why not do a Showtime one-off against one of the good fighters in the 140 division - Holt (who's been on ShoBox new generation a few x) or Lazcano for instance?

From what I've been reading, it appears that Junior Witter is still regarded as "Zab Judah's bitch" Stateside...

Only to the Ignorant Americans. There are the odd one who would like to see them fight but yeah most of them only remember him surviving against Judah.

But put the Judah performance alongside the Corley performance for example and you can see why they aren't clamouring for a Hatton vs Witter show down...
