Heh heh - I don't think Dennis lives anywhere near Marquette. USA Boxing didn't post brackets or bout sheets for the JOs.

You're right Mel. It is a long drive to Marquette (6 or 7 hours) and I'm not planning on attending.

Shoot - it takes me that long to fly there from So. Cal!!!! It is pretty country - I like all the forests and Lake Superior and the lighthouses. However, I have been up there when it was 100 degrees hot and 90% humidity. My husband was there one year and it was 120 in the ring!!! This was before the competition was moved to the Superior Dome and a/c. Unfortunately, the boxers find it boring - especially after they've lost.

Very true about the boxers finding it boring in Marquette. The hot temps that you described are rare. It can also be cold during the summer, especially at night. That is why they didn't think it was necessary to have a/c in most of the buildings.

Heh - then I had more rare hot and humid than most. I've been up there twice when it was perfectly beautiful weather and once when it rained all week. The rest of the years were hot and humid. I have learned to take a portable fan with me when I go. Last year, the mosquitos were as big as birds (and I had the bites to prove it!) and the black flies were biting as usual. I really do like Marquette, however. :D

Mel, you make it sound like a tropical paradise! If you needed to cool off, all you had to do was stick your big toe in Lake Superior's icy waters and that would have taken care of it for you. I will stay down here and stick with Lake Michigan's more enjoyable water temps.

Dennis, I stuck one foot in Lake Superior the first year I was there (1988) and they had to chip the ice off my entire leg!

Of the kids in the finals at the National JO's, I have only seen a couple of them box before. Eduardo Alicea and Zeddie Adams. Zeddie Adams looked really good when he was around 13 so I'm not too surprised at his success.

I'm very disappointed that there aren't any Michigan boxers in the finals. It was a tough year as I think Michigan only sent one boxer to the tourney. In 2006, Michigan had 1 boxer in the finals, 2 in the semi-finals and 2 more in the quarter-finals. In '05, Michigan had 2 champs, 2 runner-ups, 2 semi-finalists, and 2 quarter-finalists. In '04, Michigan had 2 champs, 1 runner-up, and 2 semi-finalists. It seems like Michigan usually had a few guys in the semi-finals and finals until this year.
