how much then?

Post by jimglen »

just in case you might be interested found this site http://www.measuringworth.com/ukcompare/ for Money's value then and now... EXAMPLE - one British title fight...

£3000 0s 0d from 1943 was worth In 2005, I think Len Harvey got £4000 for L-HW title fight Mills 1942.

£89,862.89 using the retail price index
£98,623.82 using the GDP deflator
£283,911.34 using average earnings
£294,997.49 using per capita GDP
£364,045.04 using the GDP

how much did average fighters make, Top contenders and then Champions?

interesting,.... how does that figure equate to the cost of living? Would 3000 in 42 buy the equivalent of 90000 in 2005?

more I think, much more(?),
I remember relatives saying they could have bought a whole small Tenament block (6 houses/flats) for the same £3000 in the 40s maybe even 1950s, so that would be much, much more...still not sure how it works or what figures to go on?

I tried £40 representing good 'noted' average fighters and it was about £3 - 4000 of todays money, sounds about right.
