Hatton offers Mayweather £5m to come to Manchester
According to the BBC Hatton has offered Mayweather £5m to come to Manchester, thats just less than US$10m, this is $3m less than the figure Hatton previously demanded to face Mayweather in the US
I think its an offer they know Mayweather won't take. Hatton would be taking the lions share of the purse if Mayweather got $10m. Because the PPVs in the US should probably hit 600k-700k which is $35m before everyone takes their cut. Then you have the gate, sponsers etc. It is hard to know what the fights worth but this maybe a low ball offer (wish I got low balled like this but my name isn't Floyd Mayweather).
Maybe we will have the negotiating posturing similar to Warren-Palle

I'd like it here, then it will be easy to goto. If its here I want it 10pm not 2am in the bloody morning. I don't think the place affects legacy too muchSTP wrote:Hobson offered it.
And the fight has to take place in America, it just has to. The big money comes from Vegas casinos, not British tickets. But more importantly, for Ricky's legacy... if he's beating Mayweather, he must beat Mayweather in Vegas.
is this fight set for eastlands? bbc don't specify, but if hobson is making the offer then i'm almost sure it can't be in the MEN because I'm sure that I've read that Warren has an exclusive contract to promote boxing there, which arose qhen Ricky left him for Hobson. And if it is Eastlands, then surely the fight can't be at 2 or 3 am for US PPV with it being outside and police almost certainly not fancying the idea of that.... I'm quite sure this can't happen

I noted something Bunce said in his column in the indy, about how the MEN was 'mysteriously unavailable.' I presumed he knew about Warren signing up the MEN
Does Warren still have control over the XL arena? He was one of the major shareholders in it wasn't he?
What about the 02 Arena, anyone know what the capacity for the auditorium is going to be there?
Re: Hatton offers Mayweather £5m to come to Manchester
The ppv sales would do about half of that. Hatton's stock is nothing in America compared to here. Most of the fans at the Castillo fight were Brits, no Americans turned up. Cotto/Judah and Mayweather/Judah did no more the 350,000, so Hatton/Mayweather wouldn't do much better.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:According to the BBC Hatton has offered Mayweather £5m to come to Manchester, thats just less than US$10m, this is $3m less than the figure Hatton previously demanded to face Mayweather in the US

Floyd will definitely want the lions share of the purse though and the fight will have to take place in America, because he won't come here.

I second that. The only remote chance there would be of Floyd even considering fighting Ricky in the UK, is for him to be offered the kind of money that Hobson cannot come up with. Even then, it would be touch & go whether Floyd would accept.
If the bout happens, then it'll be in USA, nowehere else. Las Vegas most likely.
Re: Hatton offers Mayweather £5m to come to Manchester
That's why it's a bit soon to jump into these kind of fights. Showcasing does come in important. Not forgetting that Hatton had looked poor in the previous 2 efforts and HBO - probably ready to ditch him - maybe didn't 'promote' it as well as they could. You can bet the Castillo fight has raised Hatton for next time though.ArtOfWar wrote:The ppv sales would do about half of that. Hatton's stock is nothing in America compared to here. Anyway, let's see the counter offer and the counter-counter offer and see where things lead...

1. Mayweather is a much bigger PPV draw now after beating Delahoya
2. Its a much more significant fight
3. Hatton is bigger draw than Judah
4. Judah was coming off a loss against Baldomir, which lost allot of PPVs and mystique
5. 2 Unbeaten world champions and both P4P fighters

There are no really big venues in vegas though are there.ArtOfWar wrote:The ppv sales would do about half of that. Hatton's stock is nothing in America compared to here. The problem is that here, you aren't really going to get people paying 500 nicker for seats, we don't have the same bling rollers at boxing matches here as they get in Vegas, so the live gate is limited. Even if the average ticket price was 100 quid, and you get 50,000, that's still only a gross of 5 million.
In Vegas the venues are smaller, but you can charge a premium because its Vegas and people come to town for a fight, lots of hanky panky and a big nose up. It's a big weekend away.
I wonder what this would do PPV wise. It ain't going to do anything like the numbers of DLH v Mayweather, maybe 700,000? What percentage do they actually get from the cable distribution agents, what are they called, On Demand, do they still have control of this shit?

This is hard to say but we can work on the percentages Mayweather/Delahoya got. If they sold 2.1m PPVs and split 80million between them(may have been more), 700k would probably mean splitting US$25-30m between Mayweather and Hatton. If they don't sell it right it could be much lessjamesmcdonnell wrote: I wonder what this would do PPV wise. It ain't going to do anything like the numbers of DLH v Mayweather, maybe 700,000? 1. He's definitely a bigger draw now, but not a much bigger draw. Fans have never flocked to Mayweather fights and never will.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:

2. To the hardcore fan yes, but to the average American no and that's who you need to get on board to get these big numbers.
3. Not in America he isn't, no way. Hatton still hasn't established himself with the American public. That's why nearly all the fans at the Castillo fight were Brits.
4. True, but again Hatton is not as big a draw as Judah Stateside and he'll have a hard time getting the average American to shell out to watch a him on ppv. And Mayweather is not a big enough draw to get 700,000 odd fans on board.
5. Doesn't matter in boxing if we're honest, it's all about how well their known. Even guy's like Barrera and Pacquiao have been struggling with the ppv numbers recently. Barrera/Marquez are both p4p fighters with huge Mexican American support and their fight didn't do that many buy's.
Hatton/Mayweather will do no more than 500,000 buy's and I'll be surprised if it does even that many. Between 350,000 and 400,000 buys is where I put the fight and I'm not understating it one bit.

1. How do you know hes not much a bigger draw, why did Delahoya get 700k buys against Mayorga and 2.1m against Mayweather if Mayweather doesn't sell fights?ArtOfWar wrote:1. 2. The average fight fan is sold the biggest fights. Big fights sell, they get a fuss made abotu them and spread liek wild fire.
3. Hatton is much bigger in the US than Judah, Judah makes $100k a fight without Floyd. again don't ignore the British money that this fight brings in
4. We'll have to see what Hatton-Castillo did in US PPVs, but the British money again is very relevant here
5. Yes it does matter, its another factor to sell the fight. It could be this decades Delahoya-Trinidad if its marketed right - although neither draw quite as much.
Only 350k-400k in PPVs? Mayweather did that against 10 losses Baldomir and no one wanted to see that fight. Against Hatton it will be allot more, especially after the Delahoya exposure. 700k isn't out the question

Verbal, PPV isn't the be all and end all. His market was NYC, which is where both fighters were known. Arum has admitted that he and King got greedy in the 90s and that the combination of PPV and casinos did a lot to take boxing outside of the mainstream. Only one guy in the whole of boxing is a PPV star and that's de la Hoya. That would suggest something is quite wrong with the way things are.
PPV was a product of the Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield era. it's understandable why ppl would be tempted for the exciting heavyweight stuff.
I mean, ultimately, what makes you think that ppl are foaming at the mouth to see Floyd strut his hardly exciting stuff? And when they've bought it, are they actually pleased? No way.
Floyd is an outstanding fighter but not the untouchable, perfect, unbeatable megastar. Let's not forget he only beat de la Hoya by SD and his weight limitations were really on evidence over the first 6 rds...

Really, when was the last time you saw a premiership footballer at a boxing match? I saw Jamie Redknapp a couple of times, that was about it.
I'm pretty sure the big celebs all get free tickets to appear at ringside anyway, by high rollers I mean the fat cats who come into vegas and stay in a 20k a night suite at the Bellagio and go to the fight.
There's no way you are going to make as much here from a live gate, the ticket pricing just doesn't stack up here, you ain't going to get people paying an average of 500 quid a ticket, which is what it was at the DLH v Mayweather fight. They generated 19 mil, from just 16,700 seats! To do similar numbers here, you'd need to sell about four times as many tickets I would have thought, because there ain't many people willing to pay more than a couple of hundred nicker to watch a fight live.

and if 10'000 ppl went from UK to vegas to watch Hatton, is 70'000 in Wembley or eastlands really that unthinkable?
