Being a technophobe, I want to tfr some fights I have from video onto my laptop.
I have no idea how to do this and any help would be much appreciated

Video or DVD? If they areDVD's, there are various bits of software you can download to rip the DVD onto the hard drive.
I've recently started doing so, ther's something called FabDVD decrypter which seems to work well. Free an all.
You can also use DVD shrink to reduce the file size, so you don't eat up all your hard drive space.
If you have them on Video, then you need to hook up your video to a DVD recorder, as you probably won't have the right hardware in your laptop to do this. You will need to get an output from the video recorder, whereby you play the video, and then record it onto a DVD recorder. If you have a desktop PC, you can buy Video cards which will allow you to do this, but make sure you buy the right one, as there are lots of versions out there. Hauppage make some good ones, look on their website for specs.
