Tips on how to get to Las Vagas

Post by wiganboxer »

Its just some good advice really the last 2 fights Ricky as had i have not bein able to afford to go but if the fight happens with Mayweather on nov 10th even if i have to get a little loan to go i aint missing that 1 and im sure theres thousands of other english men who feel the same. I would like some good advice on how much does it normally cost for like 3-5 days? is it better to book with these travel agents who do fight packages? or better to book flight & hotel and get the ticket seprate? i mean even if he fights in new york at the garden im willing to travel tere just feel like i have to watch im abroad now so basically any 1 who went watching Hatton-Castillo or as been to a vagas fight or New York fight could u tell me the best way and cheapist way of booking beacuse if it is Mayweather im tere all the way!!!

its tough for a weekend mate. You can only fly direct form londond with Virgin and they are about 2 grand a pop. Change at LA for circa 750 per flight.

thing is 48 hrs in vegas is enough.

cost me about 3 grand all in but i paid for my bro's ticket and his airfare was his bday you see.

you can do it cheaper buit if its the trip of a lifetime do you want to?

stayed in the treasure island which was 540 US for 2 nights for two in a twin room.

Feck my bro snores like a right water buffalo tho.

all in all 4 hours sleep all weekend, still aint right a week later.

worht it though I wouldnt do it for a weekend again, you need to tie it in with a few days hols somewhere else.

It doesn't need to cost the earth. The trick is to shop around for the cheapest transatlantic fight you can, then hop on a connecting flight. You can get rooms in Vegas - somewhere like Tropicana or the Imperial Palace - for less than $100 (£50) quid a night. I even heard one guy say he had got rooms at the IP for $29 a night. Ok, it's not the Ritz, but you don't go to Vegas to sleep. Chances are you'll be on the lash with your mates. Alternatively, there are cheaper places downtown around freemont street. Golden Nugget and Binions spring to mind, but you may feel a bit out of it because most of the fight crowd stays round Caesars, MGM, Mandalay Bay etc, which is three or four miles away on 'The Strip.'
So far as food and booze is concerned, it varies wildly. Yes, if you drink in Caesars, expect $7 for a Corona, but it is way cheaper if you look around. And if you are gambling, they still bring it free - even if that might be a false economy. As for food, the gourmet restaurants can knock you back upwards of $100 a throw, but the buffets and cafes in the hotels are much cheaper and there are food courts with burgers, pizzas, fish and chips, chinkies etc. With an English accent and decent manners. the girls often come free, but investment is another option for them as can't be arsed with the chat-up routine or are too pissed or ugly.
By the way, the packages are cheap.... but remember they are making a profit by saving you hassle. So if you are adept at finding your way around the internet, you can do it cheaper.
Don't be intimidated by the idea of going because, by and large, Las Vegas can be pretty much what you want the place to be, which means good fun whether you are married or single. Go for it.

My tip would be to extend your trip a bit. You can get cheap flights to LA all year round, as it's a major international airport, and an internal flight from LA to Vegas last time I did it was about 70 dollars.

Spend a few days in LA LA land, maybe take in a few days in San Francisco which is a lovely place, then go to Vegas and go bonkers.

i went to the williams klitschko fight

4 nights in vegas at the tropicana (on the strip, main cross roads near the mandalay bay and the MGM grand) which is one of the cheaper hotels. remember in vegas that you pay for the room and not per person, this represents good value.

flights with BMI from manchester to vegas

fight ticket (200 dollars) booked by phone to the venue then pick the tickets up when you get to vegas, all of the big hotels have a venue box office.

the total cost for the trip was about 610 quid all in, but all aspects were booked seperately. its easy to do.

Firstly I strongly suggest that you contact Cityboxer Travel. Nobody puts these sort of packages together better or at better prices.

The cheapest flights involve 2 stops & take about 18 hours in total. The direct flight is 10.5 hours on its own & that's more than enough travelleing time each way for a weekend. I'd recommend a 3 night stay at a minimum then you'd be in Vegas in time for the Friday weigh-in. If you stayed in a cheap off strip hotel i could get this less than £900 including the fight ticket.

Some crazy prices going around here, i went from London to Vegas for 10 days at MGM GRAND, for under 1000 quid for Castillo - Hatton.

Will be doing the same if Mayweather comes off.

Problem going for 2 days is the flights, it's 10 hours each way + the 3 hours in airport eachway + the 2 hour delay i had, + coach/drive/taxi home.

So if you go for two days, you spend that long getting there and back, so may aswell make a week of it, long weekend at the least.

Of course he does, but bear in mind travel firms get different rates to what punters pay.

However I've costed a trip up before and I reckon that even without the discount, I could get myself a week in vegas for under a 1000, in fact, I reckon it's doable for about 800, depending on what kind of accomodation you want and how many there are of you.

Well no. It's not a free service but as i buy hundreds of flights from Virgin a year i get them cheaper than individuals can and i don't have to pay for them upfront.
So you probably can't get the same packages any cheaper especially if you wait until the last couple of months before the event before paying in full.

Exactamundo. I'm sure your packages are pretty good, I'm just a tight bastard, well, more that I'm skint, and would have to do it on the cheap-o.

You know there was talk of a big Boxrec forum trip to Vegas. I have got amazing deals on huge villas a mile or so from the Strip before now. So what i would do for free is put together a trip for a bunch of us for that.

Actually the more i think about it the better it sounds to me. I'll look into it - watch this space.

Rhino,

For future reference (can't afford anything at the mo) what was the security like in the Tropicana. E.g. would you chance say a party of 7 sneeking in an using the one room.

We often do that in a travelodge (legally your oy meant to sleep 4, but the security is awful)

You can do it much cheaper

Best way to do it is book your flight through expedia or the airline site - delta doing great deals at the moment and book with the hotel direct. Also book your ticket direct with the venue and not over here.

We went to Hatton v Castillo for 8 nights £320 each ticket ($600 ringside booked through Thomas and Mack site), £350 flight via Atlanta and 8 nights at Imperial Palace (centre strip) £270 for the twin room which was shared by 2.

All came to about £800 each

Only slight down side is that you have to collect ticket from box office on day or during your stay in Vegas

Why give the money to the middle man if you can do the work yourself

It can be done pretty cheaply. I went to Vegas to the De La Hoya Mayweather fight. Flights cost me £360 and room £300. However I was by myself staying at the Riviera, so if you go with someone else you can halve the hotel. Places like the Riviera, Stratosphere and Circus Circus are all much cheaper, but it's a bit of a trek to get anywhere. As people have said Imperial Palace is very cheap and central.
It can be done as cheap as you want. I didn't spend much on food, just getting a pizza and Subway everyday as I was by myself and to save cash, so I wasn't spending more than $20 on food and drink each day.
It is probably possible to do it for £1000

Well you pays your money...
I can't recommend flying indirect as you have to pick up your baggage check in again and go through the bloody security and extend your travelling time to 14 hours or more.
Accommodation is the best bargain of the whole trip so the longer you stay the better deal it is but the thread author wanted a minimum price. My figure included direct flights, airport transfers & ringside ticket sent to you before you leave in the UK seating section.

Either way there's a whole bunch of options on this thread already so it's a good starting point for him.

You could always fly Upper Class on Virgin, get a limo to and from the Wynn (suite natch), sit ringside and after the fight put 20s in a strippers thong while sipping Bub.

there is absolutely no security at all in terms of who you can get to your room, the hotel foyers are just massive casinos.....so you could have a dozen guys in there on roll mats if you wished. or 389 blackpool cockle pickers.

How to get to Vegas?

Definitely by aeroplane.

Seriously though, some good info on this thread, looking at Hatton's next fight be it in Vegas (as long as it's a big fight) or at MSG.
