THOMPSON V VUMA

Post by Captain Hook »

"I'm just going to get in there and do what I do" - MARK THOMPSON

Many boxing fans are unsure whether Mark Thompson - this talented light-middleweight from Haywood, has bitten off more than he can chew by accepting to fight the solid Vincent Vuma.

Vuma, 31, was due to fight Jamie Moore for the WBC International Title on July 6 at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan, until a viral infection put paid to the Salford fighter's preparations.

The show must go on, though few would have expected Mark - who at 11-0 with six KOs is still fulfilling his potential - to step up and take on such a dangerous opponent.

But Thompson is that kind of character, he's from the old school. He'll fight anyone, anywhere at any time and feels confident of victory over the South African.

"Yes, I'm ready, it's very short notice but I wouldn't have agreed to fight him if I wasn't sure I could beat him," said Mark.

I hold my hand up and can honestly say Mark T has a fair old wallop on him reminiscint of a "donkey kick whilst under the influence of crack".
He can punch, but can also box and is extremly fit, he is improving at a rapid rate like my brain cells are decreasing due to some of the sparing sessions :o
No serious i feel this is a great opportunity and i he can come shinning through and showcase how much he has improved in the last year through his dedication on a big sky show. :TU:

This fight reminds me of the Dean Francis v Jaffa Ballogou fight.
Francis took a step up early in his career in a calculated gamble, unfortunatly it didn't pay off for him as he was stopped late.

In the case of Vuma he's a the puncher like Ballogou, but i think he may have a bit to much down the strech for Thompson.

Yeah i remember that fight jaffa was on fringe of world class for a while i thought Francis would win that one, always liked francis and rated him the way he handled starie who i believed was good at the time and went on to defeat clinton woods couple of fights later.

Not heard that much about Mark T. - I've seen him at sahows etc and wondered who he was.

I didn't realise he was such a strong puncher though.....could he mix it with the likes of Jennings, Anderson, Hatton etc?

Never heard of Mark Thompson to be honest, where did he spring from? Vuma seems a solid step up for a man with 11 domestic level bouts.

Absolutely....

Shame about Jamie, was looking forward to seeing him on Friday but I'm sure Thompson will do a job on Vuma.

Was good to chat to him, nice guy.....
