After the Millenium Stadium farce I will now use my money to watch ufc starting with ufc75 in London. Im not paying good money to watch bad boxing matches which leave me feeling disapointed.
That's exactly the kind of arrogance and attitude that is killing this sport. Boxbet has a very valid point and just because you have a personal involvement (or so I understand from a number of previous threads), you dismiss his views! Ha!boxingchat wrote:Bye!
The Millenium Stadium card is indefensible - No real contests among the main fights when it was billed very differently. The irony is that there was a huge amount of promotion for that weak card, while there has been none for the very strong O2 card!!
I hear wayne McColloch has become a spokesperson for UFC :-(. I watch it on tele but I think its largely ill dissiplined rubbish and I don't find grappeling interesting to whatch and also don't think straddeling somone and beating on them is a sport... I much prefer K1 but boxing is intrinsicaly better and more exciting.
I know what you mean though UFC has the advantage that there is one recognised main sanctioning boddy and they get the champions to take on real challengers. Something I've wished boxing would sort out for a long time but without money they will not.

With the Calzaghe v Kessler fight signed in the next few weeks.boxbet wrote:After the Millenium Stadium farce I will now use my money to watch ufc starting with ufc75 in London. Im not paying good money to watch bad boxing matches which leave me feeling disapointed.
See you in London late 07.
It's the biggest fight of the year and sounds like it will happen .
It's all about dates now by the sound of it ... not money.
London will hold the biggest boxing match of 2007 easy.

Now this is something I've always misundertood - I was under the impression that UFC was a brand - the equivalent of WWE compared to some other type of Wrestling organisation. At least in Boxing there is one 'brand', with the confusion of the alphabets, but there is plenty of scope for, say, the WBA and WBO titlists to meet (as in the recently signed Heavyweight fight). But in MMA, there is UFC but also....josh fg wrote:I hear wayne McColloch has become a spokesperson for UFC :-(. I'm confused (and a little worn out). On top of these, there are a number of sanctioning bodies. But what this shows is that there is plenty of scope for MMA to go the same way as boxing and disillusion its followers by confusing them over who is the "Champion".
There is no MMA Heavyweight (or other weight) Champion, simply a range of different champions across the different organisations.[/list]

Absolutely, I've argued this point elsewhere. People think of UFC as the be all and end all of MMA, but it isn't. Sure, it's the primary organisation and a long way ahead of its competitors, but it will not necessarilly always be so. In any case, the very nature of the sport's structure renders it IMPOSSIBLE to have rival champs fight each other, same as in wrestling. Yes, UFC has bought out Pride, but just as WWE bought out WCW, it doesn't mean they will be without competition - TNA has risen and is challenging WWE. At the moment, UFC is without a serious "in-house" competitor and sees its competitors as boxing and wrestling, but monopoly is bad for any sport. Once MMA settles down, if UFC still rules the roost, it could get stale, as did the WWE after "unification".

The July Grand Sumo Tournament is starting next Sunday. Yokuzuna Asashoryu, who had been so dominant in 2005/06, is back from injury; newly crowned Yokozuna Hakuho will try to repeate his recent successes; Ozeki Kotooshu is aiming for his first tournament win, and long-time Sekiwake Kotumitsuki hopes to finally earn his Ozeki promotion with another good score.
Much better stuff than both UFC and Warren's freak shows that are mistakenly labelled "boxing".

don't a lot of those other organisations feed into UFC though? Even if they don't, fighters who make it in one of them is most likely going to try and get a spot in UFC.oliverfennell wrote:Absolutely, I've argued this point elsewhere. My understanding is that the best MMA fighters end up in the UFC because that is where the money is, however in boxing the realities are different because there is more money to be made of an individual fighters personality rather than being the best in the UFC brand. If UFC ever gains the sort of world wide acclame that boxing has then the same will happen I guess.
I don't like watching people pound each other on the growned and think even bad boxing is better but there are plenty that would dissagree with me and the top fighters are still not fighting other top fighters hence Calzaghe Ottke never fighting one another (who evers fault it was) and the boxing promoters and sanctioning bodies should take that lesson.
I still think that the best boxers could take on the best MMA guys in a fight![[icon_wink.gif] ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)

freaks - or hermit misfits closed off from the rest of the world and 75% of serious competition?pundit wrote:The July Grand Sumo Tournament is starting next Sunday.
