Will Mayweather duck Hatton??

Post by thepocketrocket »

After Ricky destruction af JLC he has confirmed his status at the top table in World Boxing...

So what now, does anyone think Pretty Boy will take him on or is he going to duck the quick, fresh, boy punching machine that is Hatton?

Does Floyd need it or is he going to try and handpick his opponents if and when he comes back??

If 5 million is the best deal Hatton can offer then yes he will "duck" him.

Taking on DLH at Junior Middle I don't think we can say PBF would be effectively 'dukcing' Hatton....

Mayweather would beat Hatton and Cotto, but they'd need to give him the money...

And he could get much, much more than £5m........for fighting DLH again

As opposed to coming over here and fighting on UK soil....

I also agree with the guy who said he'd rather Hatton than Cotto, though I feel Ricky is a better fighter overall than Cotto, Cotto could give Mayweather's style more problems

Don't dollars become pointless when you've got that many? Surely the motivation should be to beat a guy that's proving himself to be worthy of a shot.
I think in Floyds position I would literally fight for free.
It's called greed. Floyd is a greedy bastard, and in boxing he's hardly alone. In fact, most sportsmen at top level in this day and age are greedy in the extreme, it's just an extension of the culture we live in, where excessive material wealth transforms you into a godlike, feted, entity who lives in a completely different world from the rest of us poor proles.

Interesting article about measuring success through wealth, not achievement in the Independent yesterday...

PBF would dance rings round him. no chance he would duck hatton. if they dont fight, its because PBF is retired and doesn't see hatton as the man to bring get him back in the ring. as far as ducking hatton is concerned, considering who PBF has fought, that should not even be entertained as a reason for this fight not coming off.

more likely will be the americans purse demands etc

hatton wants and needs this more than PBF, not the other way round.

a rematch with DLH would surely attract PFB more than a clash with hatton.

I dunno how much money PBF has in the bank but surely both Hatton and him must have more money than they know what to do with.

Whether they get 5 mill or 15 mill, would it make a jot of diff to their lives.

I would have thought they would have gone past the stage of needing the money and you cannot buy legacy

Its an intriguing style match-up.

Mayweather has only fought seriously flawed opponents in the higher weights - and although Oscar had the pedigree, he didn't have the stamina to fight the younger's fight.

Baldomir & Gatti have both been tailored opponents - Brussels & Sharmba are not even gate-keepers.

People can crow over his De La Hoya victory, but the guy fought once in what nearly 2 years prior? and he was not the force he was - yet still gave floyd a tough fight for long spells.

I'd love a 'top of their game' Ricky Hatton or Miguel Cotto to step in the 147 foray with Mayweather.

Their constant-attacking style is the one that gave Mayweather fits against Castillo Mk1 - except these 2 are much better at it.

Against Zab, Floyd was taken to the well a few times in the early rounds - these 2 would be throwing him down it.

Hatton has a good dig on him and great stamina, but cut's easily wheras Cotto has tremendous power, but a slightly fragile chin.

But they both have heart in abundance and i feel this is where the fight is won or lost for Mayweather.

If he beats either of these 2 guys i will concede his P4P status - even though his fights are snorefests.

If he does get beat though - we will pick him and his 'legacy' apart.

Was that before or after Arrum turned down Mayweathers proposal for a Cotto fight at 140?

Its easy to pick apart Floyds acheivmants but your being plain stupid, DeLaHoya had only fought 1 time in 2 years yet Hattons best win over Tszyu was almost identical. Tszyu hadnt fought more than 3 rounds in a year leading up to the fight.

Mayweather is the P4P king and knows he can call the shots in any future fight involving himself.
Hatton is looking good after his win but apart from two faded champs he hasnt beaten anyone of note and should be building his resume some more.
I would love for the fight to come of as i think Hatton has a slim chance of winning but i cant understand how anyone can blame Floyd when he has beaten everyone around his weight and even guys well above his weight.

How has Floyd beaten everyone around his weight?

At 135 and below, without a doubt, but 140 and above, he has certainly cherry picked, Corley, Bruselles, Gatti, Baldomir, Judah. These are 'the men' at 140-147 are the? There's PLENTY of guys he could have fought at those weights that he hasn't.

I'm not knocking Floyd's skills, he's a magnificent fighter, even if he is boring to watch sometimes. I see your point about Hatton, yes, both men were a little past their best, but Hatton mullered both of them, and turned them into old men.

Baldo and Judah aren't bad opponents at welter. Yes he would have probably have had a tougher time against Margarito and Mosley but Baldomir was the man.

At light-welter though he hardly tested the water did he, but then Hatton and Cotto both turned down fights with him and Harris failed when given his chance to shine.

If enough people were calling for the fight and there was enough money involved, I reckon Floyd would fight pretty much anybody.

I agree, James, that Floyd has cherry picked his opponents from 140 up. Even at 130-135, he didn't fight Casamayor (a very underrated fighter) or Freitas (when he was good and dangerous). It's very easy to say he would have beaten them, but the point is he didn't fight them. Some of his opposition from 140-147 has been woeful. A shot Gatti, unknown and unproven Brusseles and light-hitting (12 stoppages in about 40 fights) but rugged Baldi do not a number 1 PFP king make, IMO. Hatton's 2 biggest wins may have been against fighters who were slightly past prime, but let's not forget that Tszyu was ranked 2 or 3 PFP when Hatton fought him and Castillo had recently been top 10 and was probably still top 10-15. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall Mayweather ever facing someone who was in the top 10 at the time he fought them, not even Corrales or DLH.
