Calzaghe turns comedian!

Post by Loftgroov »

'Extract from Sportinglife.com'

Speaking at a public work-out in Cardiff, he told Sky Sports News: "The older you get, the bigger you get and the harder it is to make the super-middleweight division.

"To be honest, I think I've achieved everything I'm going to achieve at this weight.

"I've been champion for six years, I've beaten all the top contenders ( :D ), so unless other contenders like Hopkins come through then what's the point.

"This is a big title defence for me against a tough challenger and I will be counting on my fans to turn up on fight night as they always do to give me great support," said Calzaghe.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So Calzaghe thinks he has "beaten all the top contenders" eh? The guy really is a joke............

Calzaghe is full of shit.

He's beaten all the top contenders, bollocks.

He now wants to fight the Middleweight champion, a guy who can make 154.

Calzaghe is yet to fight Ottke, Echols and Mundine. Jeff Lacy is coming up and Robin Reid is back on the horizon. Warren is full of bullshit when he says that he has tried to make these fights.

For what its worth Hopkins would beat Calzaghe, but Joe should pick on someone his own size, or someone bigger.

To be frank, i'm not interested in Calzaghe or any of Warren's fighters for that matter.

They are all overrated, as are most British fighters.

If you want to see the best, look no further than

James Toney
Roy Jones
Marco Antonio Barrera
Floyd Mayweather
Bernard Hopkins
Juan Carlos Gomez
Kostya Tzyzu
Joel Casamayor

Warren does not have one fighter anywhere near the same league as guys like these.

At best, Warrens stable is mutton dressed up as lamb.

He is fobbing off the public, and SKY should not stand for it. SKY should appoint someone like Claude Abrams to act as an Independent adviser.

As should the BBC

Artist - I assume dispite your location being 'London' you aren't British eh?

I say this as your comments on nearly every thread seem to focus on slating either a particular British boxer, or British boxing in general.

Not that you can't of course, but....just so as I'm clear on what drives you.... :-?

I hold a British passport and have lived in London for 29 years. I was born in Ireland.

I said most British boxers are overrated and I am right.

Just look around, who, apart from Lewis (who is not British), is outstanding?

Watch the average show in the states and you will see fighters better than our so called champions on run of the mill cards.

Look at Kassim Ouma, he would beat every Light Middle we have in this country, yet he fights for peanuts on ESPN2.

Is he interested in the WBU title? Of course not, because it is a cheap imitation, mutton dressed up as lamb. The British public (I dont mean people on this site), mostly football fans lap it up as the genuine article as they dont know any better.

Its not their fault, its down to poor press coverage in the tabloids.

Look at Jeff Powells article in the Mail on Sunday.

Its all negative about Bowe being punch drunk. Why didnt he write about Woods v Johnson or Floyd Mayweathers win?

Incidentally, my favourite fighter is a former British champion - Tony Sibson.

What makes me sick is when someone like Rob Norton is billed as a former world champion.

FOR FUCKS SAKE.

Calzaghe has not faced Ottke, Larsen, Mundine, Lucas or Beyer so i would say there is plenty to keep him occupied at SM, but he has beaten all the top contenders like he says...if Tocker Pudwill and Miguel Jimenez are top contenders :D

Here somthing i'm still not 100% sure about. (with many boxers, but let's stick to JC for now).

a) Does he believe what he says, or
b) Does he think we will believe it, if he says it without laughing often enough

I mean, surrounded by lots of fans, yes man, his own father, maybe he thinks he's cleaned up SMiddle... you never know.

Knockout Artist - Lewis was born in London and moved to Canada aged 12.

According to you Lewis isn't therefore British.

I think they need more investment in Irish schools........

Really,

More money does not work in schools. Not in England, anyway.

Your MP Diane Abbott's recent comments suggest that some of the worst schools in Europe are in England.

Lewis fly's the flag of convenience, he knows it, you know it, we all know it.

He exploited the British public's desperation for a HW Champion.

As for Lewis being born in England, the former England footballer, Terry Butcher was born in Singapore.

The fact that he was born here is irrelevant.

He never moved to Canada until 12!!!

So by your definition, all the 12 year old kids running about England today who were born and have lived all their lives here thus far, are not...actually...British?

What are they then?

You are clearly an idiot.

I have to admit, I've never fully embraced Lennox as English, mainly because he won Olympic gold for Canada and knocked off several of our boys in the amateurs (Wells, Oyebola, etc). Now, don't get me wrong. He and his mum are nice people. They lived next door to my auntie in Crayford for several years (no bullshit; Frank Maloney bought them the house), but Lennox spends much of his time in Jamaica now, though he still has a home here and one in Canada.
What I am trying to say here is this: the formative years of your life, between 11 and 16, are the years that mould you as a person in my opinion; give you an identity. And Lennox was in Canada during those vital years. He would never have come back to England if he hadn't accepted Frank Maloney's lucrative offer to turn pro here in 1989. He was actually 23 by the time he did return, so from 12 to 23 was pure Canadian. You can take the man out of Canada...
