According to his record and biographical sketch, Mason Griffin
was also known as Babe Griffin! I didn't know that until a
few minutes ago.
Of course, Babe Griffin was a highly successful boxing
promoter in Northern California, notably in Sacramento.
During the 1970s, Pete Ranzany was a tremendous drawing
card on Babe's boxing cards in Sacramento. During the
1920s, Mason Griffin was San Jose-base professional fighter
who had a fairly interesting career.
If Babe Griffin and Mason Griffin are one-and-the-same, it
presents a bit of a problem on BoxRec. There is a record
for one Babe Griffin who has only one listed bout and
another for one Mason Griffin who has a fairly large number
of bouts. I would think that both records should be combined if
Babe and Mason are one-and-the same. By the way,
I have read a story about Babe fighting in a bout in
order to save a show during the 1930s.
