Ringside Nationals

Post by mac2367 »

Ringside national tourney is 1-4th of August, and I was wondering what you guys think of them in terms of competition, how well they are ran, etc.

If a smoker is a 1, Olympics is a 10, where does Ringside rank? Im guessing below Golden gloves and obviously olympic trials, but what about silver gloves?

Im competing in them this year, novice 132 17-34 men's division. I think the atmosphere will be pretty cool as well.

They are run well. Lots of competition. Some of the top open-class guys do not attend, but for novice boxers, female boxers, and masters boxers it is about the only chance to box for many. They have 6 rings for all of the competition with afternoon and evening sessions everyday. The only problem is that it is a long tournament so it gets costly to attend.

I think Ringside is probably the best national invitational tournament as it provides a great opportunity to gain experience. I wouldn't count it in with any national ranking tournaments (U.S. Championships, PAL, Golden Gloves, Qualifiers). With the number of boxers who generally compete, it makes for a rather long (as Dennis said) and unwieldly event.

FYI, Silver Gloves is strictly for young people between the ages of 10 and 15.

Good luck - and, most important, have fun. :D

With the variety of bells, whistles, horns, gongs, cowbellls, etc going off it is difficult for some of the boxers. You have to focus on which of the 6 noises is for your ring and then tune out all the others. I have seen many boxers stop at the wrong noise and get hit because of it. I have seen the ref stop the action many times at the sound of another rings bell or horn. It can be confusing so just protect yourself at all times.

You will most likely have plenty of competition. It is a one and done tourney like most so if you lose you will be sent packing.
