Winners of the box-offs, if I remember correctly.

The Beijing Olympics qualifiers will also get places in the World Championships, as I understand it.

Emile - from what I have heard you are absolutely correct. It is the first of the Olympic qualifiers for the US team.

The 11 winners at the Olympic Box-offs (1 week double elimation tournament and 2 days, if needed, of box-offs between the winner of the championship and challenger brackets in each weight class [winner of the challenger's bracket has to beat the winner of the championship bracket twice to make the team]) will be the U.S. World Championships team.

The first 8 boxers in the 106 top 178 weight class from different National Organizing Committees qualify for the Olympics; the first 4 in the 201 and 201+ will qualify for the Olympics. After that, there will be two Americas qualifiers - probably next spring.

so in other words EVERYTHING is riding on these earlier-than-usual olympic trial boxoffs!!
Not sure what you mean....but everything "rides" on the Trails/Box-offs every Olympic year, whether they are earlier than usual or not.
are the olympic trials & boxoffs going to be held a YEAR AHEAD OF TIME from now on, or is this just a one-time experiment?
I sincerly hope it was just an experiement and we don't do this again. It kept our boxers from any international competition for an entire year, plus the stress of going from qualifier to qualifier to try and make the team. We probably won't know until 2009 or 2010 if it will be early again.
IMO it could prevent us from getting a few late bloomers on the team!!
What do you mean by "late bloomers?" I think the age determination date is the same, early or not, and you do have to be 17 by the time of the first qualifier. And most of the boxers should have "bloomed" by now or they won't make the team anyway.
