Jones-Tarver: a quick betting preview

By Derek Bilton

The brilliant Roy Jones makes the journey back down to light-heavyweight on Saturday night to face perennial thorn in his side Antonio Tarver.
Tarver is a fine boxer in his own right and against anyone else I would advocate steaming into him at odds of around 7/1.
Yet in Jones he meets a man who is a genuine, bona fide, master of his trade.
Genuis, prodigy, the cats pyjamas, call him what you will.
And to make matters worse, he's angry.
This is due to a combination of Tarver's fast mouth, and the agony of getting himself back down to the 175lbs weight limit after moving up to heavyweight and taking the WBA title from John Ruiz last time out.
Indeed there are those who feel making the weight may prove Jones' undoing, but Roy is an old pro and would not be risking shedding the pounds dangerously against someone of Tarver's undoubted calibre.
Tarver is 21-1, has avenged his only defeat by KO, and has battled successfully back from alcohol addiction during his career.
But not surprisingly Jones is a big favourite, and is as short as 1/33 in places.
I have a very strong hunch that Jones will be going all out to stop Tarver and button his mouth for good, so the 1/3 for Jones to win via KO, TKO or disqualification is probably the way to go to make some dough in this one.

Roy Jones to beat Antonio Tarver via KO, TKO or Disqualification at 1/3 (Bet 365).
