I see Harry Simon lost his appeal against a two-year sentence yesterday and is now in jail.
Overtaking, wrong side of the road, etc. Killed three including a baby.
Terrible.
Yeah, there's a correlation between adrenalin production and thrill seeking, most people who participate in dangerous sports, have an unusually high tolerance for adrenalin, and consequently require extra thrills to chase boredom away. I should imagine that an analysis of boxers would reveal that they too have in general the same traits.Terry D wrote:Maybe, bear with me here chaps, it is because they take part in such a dangerous and thrilling sport. Imagine beating, for example, Felix Trinidad in Puerto Rico then having to come home to Wolverhampton. Of course you will want to recreate the thrill.
So you might do a bit of sniff (not that I'm saying any boxer would do this), you might bang lap-dancers three at a time, you could buy a cross-bow or you could buy a bloody fast car and go around at pant-wetting speeds looking for the buzz you no longer get when you are fighting.
Day-to-day banality must be hard for a professional fighter, especially at a decent level, so no wonder they get into fast-cars. Chico was the ultimate blood and glory warrior (more so than Gatti because Chico won his big war) so is it any wonder he thought "I need a fast-car, lots of booze and some tight corners to give me a thrill".
Most decent-level fighters won't be happy with the school-run approach to owning a car.
I am surprised it does not happen more with retired fighters. An athlete dies twice. The first time is when they retire from their sport so I would not be surprised to see a fighter going around at crazily high speeds.
The answer? Drive at medium speed, with a bag of sniff whilst banging three lap-dancers and shooting at cows with a loaded crossbow.
