Boxrec has HW Manuel Abrew's hometown as Edinburgh. I seem to recall reading somewhere that he was born in Blackpool. Do any of you British fans know for sure?

to my knowledge he was a Scot,
that doesn't rule out the fact he might have been born in England or elsewhere...the Ring did a piece on him in the late 30s (or maybe that was Tommy Martin), Abrew was managed to some degree by his wife as together they battled predigous and made Abrew a good living out of boxing and from what I understand he wasn't half bad either.
Jim.

He was a French Canadian light heavyweight who killed his fiancee in a 'crime of passion' which isn't recognized as such in this country. Apparentley Fontaine had 'film star looks' and his hanging was big newsOld bones Ian wrote:Anyone know the story behind Del Fontaine? He was knocked out in a round by Abrew, but 4 months later he was hanged? what was his crime, i'm guessing it had to be murder, but they seemed to have strung him up pretty quick.
in this country at the time.
