Anyone who saw JAHamilton’s effort on the Current scene will know what I am trying to do here...
The Australian public have decided they want to know once and for all who the best Heavyweight we have to offer is. I have gotten in touch with all the relevant promoters and they have agreed to put their fighters in a knockout tournament that I will run. Eight fighters have been chosen to enter by a panel of top Australian boxing figures (unfortunately Kali Meehan is unable to participate). Fighters will only have 1 month in between each fight and all fights will be 12 rounds so there might just be some unusual results based on how easy or hard their previous fight was.
Heavyweight Tournament
- It is up to you to vote on the match-ups.
- You can include varying amounts of information (IE you can just say who wins, you can say how they won [UD, MD, SD, TKO KO + rd, DQ etc etc], give details of how and why if you like.)
- The majority will decide who wins and moves on to the next round, and I will see if there is a consensus on how it ended, since this will have a bearing on what might happen in the next fight.
- Lets just stick to voting and stating your case if you have one, not arguing with other voters since it will clutter things up.
- Cut off for voting on this round will be next Saturday.
- Have Fun & Play Nice.

2. With the superior physical advantages Mason has over Tauasa the blown up Super middleweight has a lot of trouble getting anywhere near Mason early. Mason wins all the first half. Tauasa lands a great shot and drops a fast tiring Mason in the 8th, Mason shows suprising heart and determination and gets back up, Tauasa finishes looking fresh and Mason looks like he's been in a war, but he isn't dropped again. Scores 113-113, 115-115 and 114-113 and the winner
Mason MD. Huge upset.
3. Wilson wins every round before stopping De Mori in the 5th
Wilson TKO5
4. Solo is in terrific shape. He is paitient and stalking Big Bob. Mirovic can't hit him and Solo is landing fairly regularly. Solo seems to be slowing a bit at the half-way point and Bob starts to get some punches in, but eventually Solo gets Bob with a bomb and although Bob gets up he is stopped by the referee in the following round

If you want to give more info you can (as it may affect how the fighter performs next week) but just the winners are fine as well mate. The result is Bowie Tupou KO2 John Hopate
Fun while it lasted! As usual Hoppa came out like a bull at a gate swinging wildly for the entire first round. Tupou moved well and avoided most of the punches. Bowie was countering well but wasn’t sitting down on his punches. The second round started much like the first until Tupou saw an opening and loaded up with massive right hand. Hoppa was out cold before he hit the canvas and the ref waved off the bout. All in all an easy night for Bowie who will be well rested for his next fight.

Lawrence Tauasa – 5
Les Mason – 1
(Mainly late KO’s for Tauasa and a lone UD for Les)
The result is Lawrence Tauasa TKO10 Les Mason
The size difference was evident as soon as the two stepped into the ring. Les used this to his advantage in the early going throwing out his long, but largely ineffective, jab and leaning on Lawrence when he got in close. Big Les’s stamina soon let him down though and it became like a heavy bag workout for Tauasa, Les was unable to do anything to stop the onslaught. After a couple of rounds that were pure punishment for Mason the ref finally stopped the bout in the 10th round. Tauasa got the desired result but he was breathing heavily towards the end and you could tell he had been in a fight.

Mark De Mori – 2
(Mainly mid round KO’s for Wilson with a SD and KO for De Mori)
The result is Colin Wilson TKO5 Mark De Mori
De Mori looks like he has trained well for the fight; Wilson also looks like he has put in a few rounds… in the pub! Both men box well in the early rounds. Mark decides to take the 5th round off and plays rope-a-dope, the plan backfires though when the ref steps in to wave it off. De Mori is furious! Even though it was only 5 rounds Wilson is tired and there are a few marks on his face, it will be interesting to see how he recovers for next month.

The result is KO8 Solomon Haumono
The bell rings to start the fight and Mirovic runs straight into a massive right hand and goes straight down. Haumono stalks his opponent for the remainder of the round, landed when he chooses. It appears Haumono wants to prolong the assault carrying Bob for several painful rounds until the eighth when he decides enough is enough and he unleashes an overhand right to end the fight in an instant! Solomon barely raised a sweat and looks good for next month.
[I may have been a tad biased in this commentary
]
