Here is a few reliable sources to back up my claim, also if you have the programme for the Hatton/Magee fight this also states that he was born in Longford and the family then moved to Dublin before moving to England

Here is a link to the trailer of the upcoming film about Gomez in which he states that it was only as a kid that he moved "again" to Manchester - i.e. he had already move once (to Dublin) before moving to Manchester
